330,000 homes to be supplied in northern Gyeonggi, including 170,000 homes in new towns such as Namyangju Wangsuk
360,000 new homes in Seoul, with public housing sites providing 60,000 homes in Gangnam and 50,000 in Gangbuk
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that, in order to stabilize housing for actual end-users, it will open subscriptions (occupant recruitment) in phases starting this year for a total of 1.27 million new homes, including 756,000 homes in Gyeonggi Province, 364,000 homes in Seoul, and 151,000 homes in Incheon.
Of these, the Ministry plans to supply 330,000 homes in northern Gyeonggi, including Namyangju, Goyang, Paju, Yangju, and Guri, with 270,000 homes supplied through public housing sites and 60,000 homes through redevelopment projects.
For public housing sites whose locations have been confirmed, a total of 270,000 homes will be supplied in Namyangju (103,000), Goyang (67,000), Yangju (35,000), Paju (36,000), and Guri (7,000). In addition, homes will be supplied in a balanced manner across Guri, Uijeongbu, and Gimpo, including the Guri Galmae Station area (6,000 homes), Uijeongbu Ujeong (4,000 homes), Gimpo Masong (4,000 homes), and Gimpo Yanggok (2,000 homes).
△Namyangju will supply 103,000 homes, including Wangsuk (66,000 homes), the Yangjeong Station area (14,000 homes), Jinjeop 2 (10,000 homes), and Dasan Jigeum·Jingeon (10,000 homes). The Wangsuk district will designate the area around the new GTX-B station as an urban high-tech industrial complex to develop it into an economic hub city for the northeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area, while the Wangsuk 2 district will be developed into a youth culture and arts city integrating creative work, exhibition, performance, and start-up education functions.
△Goyang will supply 67,000 homes, including Changneung (38,000 homes), Janghang (13,000 homes), the Broadcasting and Video Valley (4,000 homes), Jichuk (3,000 homes), and Tanhyeon (3,000 homes). The Changneung district will be planned as a self-sufficient city that thrives together with its surroundings, centered on the Changneung Stream, and a central mixed-use district will be placed at the heart of the district where the Goyang Line and BRT connect, creating a landmark for the Changneung district.
△Yangju will supply 35,000 homes, including Yangju Hoecheon (18,000 homes), Yangju Gwangseok (8,000 homes), and Yangju Okjeong (8,000 homes), while Paju will supply 36,000 homes, including Paju Unjeong (33,000 homes).
Occupant recruitment for public housing sites in the northern Gyeonggi region is planned to begin with 39,000 homes this year, followed by 27,000 homes in 2021 and 32,000 homes in 2022. The locations to be supplied this year include Paju Unjeong 3, Yangju Hoecheon, Dasan Jigeum, Yangju Okjeong, Gimpo Masong, Goyang Samsong, Goyang Jichuk, and Namyangju Byeollae, while the locations to be supplied in 2021 include Paju Unjeong 3, Namyangju Jinjeop 2, and the Guri Galmae Station area.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has launched the 3rd-phase New Town website (www.3기신도시.kr)를 to provide information such as development concepts and transportation plans for major districts including Namyangju and Changneung, and it offers a “Subscription Schedule Notification” service that informs users of the subscription schedule for districts of interest via text message 3 to 4 months before subscription opens.
Kim Seung-beom, head of the Public Housing Site Planning Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “We will do our best to supply the 1.27 million homes in the Seoul metropolitan area in a timely manner and to gather as much input as possible from experts, local governments, and residents so that projects such as the 3rd-phase New Towns can be carried out substantively.”
