April housing permits totaled 44,609 units nationwide, up 39.9% from the same month last year (31,884 units), while Seoul recorded 10,107 units, a 132.9% increase year-on-year. By region, the metropolitan area posted 25,487 units, up 80.4% year-on-year and up 13.5% from the five-year average, while non-metropolitan regions recorded 19,122 units, up 7.7% year-on-year but down 12.2% from the five-year average. By type, apartments nationwide numbered 32,369 units, up 43.1% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing totaled 12,240 units, up 32.1% year-on-year.
April housing construction starts totaled 45,262 units nationwide, down 4.3% from the same month last year (47,318 units). By region, the metropolitan area recorded 20,403 units, down 19.6% year-on-year and down 10.7% from the five-year average, while non-metropolitan regions posted 24,859 units, up 13.4% year-on-year and up 9.9% from the five-year average. By type, apartments nationwide numbered 34,042 units, down 10.4% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing totaled 11,220 units, up 20.3% year-on-year.
April sales of multi-unit housing totaled 26,962 units nationwide, up 4.6% from the same month last year (25,772 units). By region, the metropolitan area recorded 11,900 units, up 1.1% year-on-year and up 13.5% from the five-year average, while non-metropolitan regions posted 15,062 units, up 7.6% year-on-year and up 6.4% from the five-year average. By type, general sales totaled 24,327 units, up 52.0% year-on-year; rental housing totaled 439 units, down 92.8% year-on-year; and units for association members totaled 2,196 units, down 40.2% year-on-year.
April housing completions totaled 24,583 units nationwide, down 48.6% from the same month last year (47,827 units). By region, the metropolitan area recorded 14,293 units, down 35.8% year-on-year and down 30.4% from the five-year average, while non-metropolitan regions posted 10,290 units, down 59.8% year-on-year and down 58.2% from the five-year average. By type, apartments nationwide numbered 17,002 units, down 56.7% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing totaled 7,581 units, down 11.4% year-on-year.
