Dongkuk Steel Group

Support for Child Abuse Victims

On June 19, Dongkuk Steel Group held a donation ceremony at the Save the Children Korea headquarters in Mapo-gu, Seoul, presenting 88.385 million won in accumulated donations raised through its 'DK Walk More, Gathering Love' campaign to support improvements to the living environment of a group home for child abuse victims in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.

The 'DK Walk More, Gathering Love' campaign is the new name for the 'Good Steps' employee-participation social contribution campaign that Dongkuk Steel Group has run since 2019. During the campaign period, the accumulated number of employees' steps is converted into a donation and used to help local communities near the group's business sites. From May 14 to 23, over a total of 10 days, some 1,200 employees participated and accumulated 88.385 million steps. All affiliates took part, including Dongkuk Holdings, Dongkuk Steel, Dongkuk CM, Interjis, Dongkuk Systems, Ferrum Infra and Dongkuk Investment, as well as Ajusteel, a newly added member of the family. Save the Children plans to use Dongkuk Steel Group's donation for a remodeling project on a group home for child abuse victims in Dangjin, where Dongkuk Steel's plate mill is located. The plan is to improve aging facilities such as wallpaper, flooring, insulation and plumbing, and to consider creating spaces such as a counseling room. Some 10 officials attended the ceremony, including Shin Yong-jun, head of the Strategy Office at Dongkuk Holdings, and Kim Hee-kwon, head of the ESG Business Division at Save the Children Korea.

At the ceremony, Shin Yong-jun, head of the Strategy Office at Dongkuk Holdings, said, "It is meaningful that employees across all group affiliates have come together with one heart to give back to the local community," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to maintain and develop this company-wide campaign, which has been held every year for seven years."

Since first running the 'Good Steps' campaign in 2019, Dongkuk Steel Group has accumulated approximately 402 million steps over seven years and has carried out giving activities in local communities near its business sites, including Pohang, Incheon, Busan and Dangjin.
