Collaboration with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Shinan-gun realizes a mutually beneficial color design

Shinan-gun's '1004 Color Marketing' enhances the value of the regional brand

KCC (CEO Jung Jae-hoon) announced that the color design works it jointly submitted with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Shinan-gun won the Blue Award (Technology) and the Red Award (Innovation), respectively, at the '23rd Korea Color Awards.'

The Korea Color Awards, hosted by the Korean Society of Color Studies and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, and the Korea Federation of Design Associations, is Korea's only awards ceremony dedicated to color. It evaluates outstanding color design cases and research achievements and presents awards in the 'Red (Innovation),' 'Blue (Technology),' and 'Green (Spatial Environment)' categories. Together with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, KCC submitted the 'HD Hyundai HiMSEN Engine Color System' and won the Blue Award (Technology). The HiMSEN engine is a core marine engine of HD Hyundai that represents eco-friendliness and high performance, and KCC was recognized for its technical capability in expressing the characteristics and identity of eco-friendly fuels through color.

The '1004 Color Marketing' submitted together with Shinan-gun won the Red Award (Innovation). This project leveraged the characteristics of the archipelago region, which is made up of 1,004 islands, by giving each island its own unique color and developing this into a tourism resource. It was highly rated for developing color not as mere visual decoration but as a theme reflecting the lives, history, culture, and natural environment of residents. A distinctive feature is that residents' opinions were reflected in the process of selecting each island's representative color, and residents themselves participated by managing the colors of flowers, plants, and buildings. As a result, since the project was launched, an average of 300 visitors per day and about 400,000 tourists per year have been visiting; in 2024, tourism spending increased by about 10% year-on-year, while spending on tourism souvenirs rose by about 204%. The color marketing is credited with having a positive impact on enhancing the value of the regional brand and attracting population.

Unlike the projects in which KCC had participated alone, this award is also significant in that it represents a collaboration model jointly driven by industry and a local government. Through its joint projects with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Shinan-gun, KCC demonstrated that color can contribute not only to strengthening industrial competitiveness but also to creating value for local communities.
