Improving the living environment of vulnerable social groups, with one-on-one customized home repairs by renovation experts

This year again, some 30 households selected for renovation and repair into clean, safe homes

On March 21, KCC (CEO Jeong Jae-hoon) and Seocho-gu held a signing ceremony marking the start of the 2025 Firefly project.

First launched in 2018, the ‘Firefly House’ is a project that supports the realization of spatial welfare through the renovation and repair of homes belonging to vulnerable social groups in Seocho-gu. Like a firefly rising into the night sky, it carries the meaning of reaching out to communities in need of help and transforming their lives to be bright and vibrant.

Having delivered happy change to a cumulative total of 224 households through last year, KCC plans to sponsor the project with the equivalent of 100 million won this year to improve some 30 households. Using KCC’s eco-friendly paints to create a comfortable and safe environment, and enhancing heating and cooling energy efficiency with high-performance windows and doors, the company will upgrade living environments and further raise residents’ quality of life. Eligible applicants for housing improvement are households with an income of 120% or less of the median standard, including basic livelihood security recipients, elderly people living alone, single-parent families, and people with disabilities. Applications can be submitted from April through May via the relevant neighborhood community service centers and partner organizations. Selected households receive individually customized home repair services. Mr./Ms. A, who watched the home repair process last year, expressed gratitude, saying, “I have done construction work myself in the past, so I know very well how hard it is. But I was moved to see the people helping us work so diligently.” With a bright smile, he added, “Now the time I spend at home is so much happier.”

Along with Firefly House, KCC plans to continue expanding a variety of business-linked social contribution activities, such as ‘Saeteul Village (Saeteul Maeul),’ and to bring warm change to even more neighbors.

A KCC official said, “Every year we hear that the people supported through Firefly House are greatly satisfied, which gives us even more energy to carry on the Firefly House activities,” adding, “Our goal is not simply renovation and repair, but helping people live better lives in a safe and comfortable environment.”
