World-renowned graffiti artists Dulk and JonOne
Large-scale murals created with KCC Paint at the Aphae-do township office
The 'Great Graffiti Village' project, jointly carried out by KCC, Shinan-gun, and URBAN BREAK, is drawing considerable attention.
'The Great Graffiti Village' is a large-scale project that transforms Shinan-gun's Aphae-do into a single art exhibition space, capturing the spotlight with the participation of world-class artists. Spanish graffiti artist Dulk and American artist JonOne took part, completing murals at the Aphae-do township office and Palace Park, and in September, Portuguese artist Vhils will join the project. KCC's water-based paint 'Soopuro' was used for this project.
Dulk, who gained further fame through his work as an artist on a National Geographic expedition, drew inspiration from the Shinan mudflats — a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site — and the creatures that live there, particularly Korea's endangered animals, rendering the black-faced spoonbill, the Japanese white-eye, the tiger, and more in vivid and striking colors. The rich, deep colors of KCC Paint and its weather resistance, which withstands even the sea breeze, played a major role in bringing the artists' works to life. JonOne, meanwhile, is a renowned artist who has been awarded the Ordre national de la Legion d'honneur, France's highest cultural and artistic honor. On two apartment walls at Palace Park in Aphae-eup, he created graffiti works by tagging his artist name using a variety of traditional Korean colors. The inspiring, vibrant patterns evoke an exotic atmosphere. The project has been met with an enthusiastic response from local residents and tourists alike. The colorful graffiti works created by Dulk and JonOne are said to enhance the local scenery while also helping to make Aphae-eup an even more appealing tourist destination. In particular, the works made with KCC's 'Soopuro' add artistic value along with an eco-friendly image.
Jeong Min-gu, head of KCC's Brand Communication Team, said, "The 'Great Graffiti Village' project, jointly carried out by Shinan-gun, URBAN BREAK, and KCC, will offer a new attraction not only to residents near Aphae-do but also to tourists, and will greatly contribute to revitalizing the region's arts and culture." He added, "Going forward, we plan to pursue a variety of marketing activities that can contribute not only to the fields of culture and the arts but also to the development of local communities."
Meanwhile, this past July, KCC took part in 'URBAN BREAK 2024,' Asia's largest urban and street art festival held at COEX in Seoul, where it operated an art wall using the water-based paint 'Soopuro' and supported a live performance by graffiti artist JonOne.
