Bird Collision Prevention Stickers

KCC Glass announced that on September 9, its ‘HomeCC Challenger Volunteer Corps,’ made up of company employees, carried out a campaign to attach ‘bird collision prevention stickers’ in order to protect wild birds from soundproof walls.

This volunteer activity, which targeted the transparent soundproof walls in the Bunae Intersection area of Seocheon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, brought together about 60 people. In addition to the HomeCC Challenger Volunteer Corps, participants included Saedeokhu, a YouTuber with 440,000 subscribers, along with his subscribers, as well as people from the National Institute of Ecology and ‘Window Strike Monitoring,’ a student club at Ewha Womans University.

Over roughly three hours, the participants attached bird collision prevention stickers along a 364m stretch of the transparent soundproof wall. The soundproof wall where the stickers were attached is one where more than 180 cases of wild bird collision damage have been observed since 2018 through Naturing, a platform for sharing nature-related activities.

Bird collision prevention stickers are dot-patterned stickers attached to transparent obstacles at intervals of 10cm wide and 5cm tall, helping birds recognize the area as a space they cannot pass through so that they avoid collisions. In fact, according to the National Institute of Ecology, attaching bird collision prevention stickers has been shown to reduce the accident rate by about 90%.

A KCC Glass official said, “The central and local governments are actively working to protect wild birds, including by amending legislation, but a great deal of help is still needed, and we joined this activity together with related organizations to lend our support.” The official added, “Starting with this campaign to attach bird collision prevention stickers on soundproof walls, the HomeCC Challenger Volunteer Corps plans to fully carry out a variety of volunteer activities for local communities planned for the second half of this year.”
