KCC Glass (CEO Kim Nae-hwan) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Environment, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and others, launching an initiative to prevent environmental diseases among socially vulnerable groups.
The environmental disease prevention initiative is an environmental welfare service that has been in place since 2009 to protect the health of socially vulnerable groups. It aims to create living spaces for vulnerable groups that are safe from harmful environmental factors by leveraging the expertise and resources of participating companies.
For this year's initiative, the '2023 MOU Signing Ceremony for Improving Indoor Environments for Vulnerable Groups' was held on June 15 at the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, attended by Vice Minister of Environment Yoo Je-chul, Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute President Choi Heung-jin, and key figures from 16 sponsoring companies.
Through this agreement, indoor air quality assessments will be conducted this year for approximately 1,750 vulnerable households, including low-income households, households with missing family members, households with persons with disabilities, and households of elderly people living alone, while 500 households with poor environmental conditions will be selected to receive support for improving their indoor environments.
KCC Glass is participating in this initiative by donating 'Soop,' an eco-friendly flooring product from HomeCC Interior. Soop flooring is a leading domestic eco-friendly flooring product that has ranked No. 1 in Korea Brand Power (K-BPI) for eight consecutive years and No. 1 in the Korean Standard-Quality Excellence Index (KS-QEI) for 13 consecutive years. Its product safety has also been recognized through various eco-friendly certifications, including the government-certified Eco-Label (Environmental Labeling Certification) from the Ministry of Environment and the group standard certification for eco-friendly building materials (HB Mark) from the Korea Air Cleaning Association.
A KCC Glass official said, "We decided to take part in this meaningful initiative to help provide safe spaces for vulnerable groups living in poor environments," adding, "We will continue to carry out a variety of social contribution activities to fulfill our corporate social responsibility and build a happy society where people live together."
Meanwhile, at the MOU signing ceremony, KCC Glass was also presented with a commendation from the Minister of Environment. In recognition of its leading role in improving indoor environments for vulnerable groups and its contribution to spreading eco-friendly products, Dok Go-jin, Managing Director of Management Support at KCC Glass, received the Minister of Environment's commendation on behalf of the company.
