Exhibition Hall Themed ‘AI Home Newly Reimagined with Affectionate Intelligence’

Organically Caring for Customers to Suit Diverse Lifestyles

LG Electronics (CEO Cho Joo-wan) took part in IFA 2024, Europe’s largest home appliance show, held in Berlin, Germany from September 6 to 10.

This year, LG Electronics’ exhibition theme was ‘Experience, Affectionate Intelligence Home.’ The company unveiled its ‘LG AI Home’ solution, which upgrades customers’ daily lives and empathizes with them through an AI home hub equipped with generative AI along with AI appliances.

‘LG ThinQ ON,’ which LG Electronics revealed for the first time at this exhibition, is the core device of the LG AI Home that keeps home appliances and IoT devices constantly connected to the customer. It is the home appliance industry’s first hub to feature generative AI. In the LG AI Home, customers communicate with ThinQ ON by voice, as if talking with family or friends. The generative AI grasps the context of the conversation and the surrounding environment, and controls appliances and IoT devices to keep customers cared for in optimal condition. After passing through a media-art display of AI Home imagery presented on an ultra-large LED roughly 30m wide, visitors entering the exhibition hall were greeted by a variety of lifestyle spaces that concretely showcased the LG AI Home. First, in a space capturing the lifestyle of ‘active seniors,’ the LG AI Home eased the burden of household chores in daily life while depicting customers who lead a vibrant second chapter of life after retirement.

LG Electronics also presented ways to make the most of the leisure time freed up thanks to the AI Home. When a customer accesses a home-training app on an LG smart TV equipped with a dedicated camera, the AI analyzes the user’s exercise motions to help maintain correct posture. In the space featuring ‘children and pets,’ the ‘mobile AI Home hub (code name: Q9),’ which moves on wheels mounted on two legs and autonomous driving technology, not only adjusts lighting and other settings to match a child’s daily routines such as sleep and study, but also provides care services that consider the child’s emotional well-being, such as reading books aloud or creating and telling stories.

Visitors could also experience a pet-care-tailored AI Home solution. The AI air conditioner and air purifier, equipped with radar sensors, detect a pet’s movements to change the airflow direction and automatically adjust temperature and humidity. In a space tailored to the ‘YG (Young Generation)’ generation accustomed to enjoying home parties, visitors could watch an ‘AI Cooking Show’ in which a professional chef completed party-worthy dishes while conversing with the AI Home hub LG ThinQ ON—asking about menus that reduce food waste and receiving recipe recommendations.

At this exhibition, LG Electronics also showcased ‘AI Core Tech (core technological capabilities),’ which forms the foundation of its AI Home solutions. AI Core Tech combines LG Electronics’ outstanding hardware technologies, such as motors and compressors, with AI technology. By using AI to analyze the product’s usage environment and provide optimized modes, it enhances both product performance and energy efficiency.
