"Objets of graceful design made from LAR liquid acrylic material elevate the sophistication of the exhibition"
Saturnbath Co., Ltd. (CEO Jeong In-hwan), a company specializing in bathrooms, is continuing its marketing efforts to expand points of contact with general consumers, participating in various design exhibitions and providing product placement for television dramas.
Saturnbath recently took part in the 'Moomin Original: Moomin 75th Anniversary Special Original Art Exhibition' and 'Gangnam Interior Design Week,' where it presented objets that made full use of the characteristics of liquid acrylic (LAR), the company's signature design material.
LAR (Liquid Acrylic Resin), the material used for bathtubs, washbasins and more, is a premium-grade material used by luxury brands in Italy, Spain and elsewhere. Imported entirely from the UK, its matte pure-white warm tones and soft, cozy texture reminiscent of human skin create a high-end atmosphere. Manufactured using a casting process, it has no joints, making it hygienic and easy to keep continuously clean, which makes it well suited to public facilities. It can express graceful designs that cannot be achieved with other materials.
Using liquid acrylic, a material that allows designers to give full rein to their imagination, Saturnbath is participating in 'Moomin Original: Moomin 75th Anniversary Special Original Art Exhibition' (hereinafter 'Moomin Original'), the opening exhibition of 'Ground Seesaw Seongsu'—the second permanent exhibition venue of the complex cultural space 'Ground Seesaw'—running through November 14, 2021.
Covering the story of Moomin, beloved by people around the world for the past 75 years, 'Moomin Original' is a convergence-type exhibition based on the story of Finland's national character, Moomin. As the largest standalone Moomin exhibition in Korea, it presents some 250 original Moomin artworks and illustrations. In particular, the fan art and original character drawings from the nine Moomin novels featured in the exhibition were brought in directly from originals held by Finland's Moomin Characters and the Jansson family. In addition, a diverse range of experiential exhibition content, including 3D animation and media art using the Moomin characters, will stimulate visitors' five senses.
At this Moomin special original art exhibition, Saturnbath presented the NC Bench, which it designed and produced itself. A Saturnbath representative said, "Illustrations from the books pass across the screen-lined walls while a narration reads the book aloud. There is the fun of watching the Moomin friends move about, and you can rest your legs for a moment on Saturn's NC Bench while listening to the story."
Saturnbath also participated in 'Gangnam Interior Design Week,' held from November 20 to 28 last year on Hakdong-ro in Gangnam, Seoul, where it realized the 'Mars Hotel Bellboy' motif proposed by designer Kevin Park through 'Pleasurescape,' a work designed by Karim Rashid, one of the world's top three industrial designers. Through mix-and-matching that combined works by Kevin Park—a furniture designer with a background in stage production—with objets and furniture by renowned artists, the worldview of a not-so-distant Mars hotel was brought to life as a three-dimensional space. The playful sense of volume of 'Pleasurescape,' which evokes a crater on Mars, delivers visual amusement while also functioning as a resting space, demonstrating the broad versatility of design products. Saturnbath has presented to the public artistic objets including the 'Pleasurescape' communal bench created by Karim Rashid, the 'NC Bench,' stools, and designer Moon Hee's Toruso.
'Gangnam Interior Design Week' is an exhibition event held on Hakdong-ro (from Nonhyeon Station to Hakdong Station), Korea's premier hub for interior design, where some 100 interior showrooms—from high-end imported brands and beyond—are located. This year's event saw 39 brands simultaneously open their showrooms to welcome visitors, including the world's finest design brands such as the Italian leather house Natuzzi, the 110-year-old Danish brand Carl Hansen & Søn, and the Italian luxury kitchen furniture makers Arclinea and Stellar Works, as well as leaders in the domestic interior industry such as LG Hausys, Le Marble, Hanil Carpet, Daelim Bath, Royal & Company and Emons.
Meanwhile, Saturnbath products can also be seen in dramas. Saturnbath provided premium bathtubs, communal washbasins and bathroom accessories for the tvN Wednesday–Thursday drama 'True Beauty,' which first aired on December 9 last year. Its products included the 'Haute Bathtub,' which highlights the sophisticated taste and chic style of the male lead 'Su-ho,' along with a matte black towel bar and grid-pattern tiles to match the overall cool tone. In addition, the communal washbasin 'Poly Edition' was proposed for the boys' and girls' restrooms of the school that serves as the drama's main setting, so as to highlight the individuality and taste of the lively characters. 02-3416-1400
