Samsung Electronics is unveiling a new 'Map View'-based home IoT solution for smart apartments equipped with SmartThings.
The SmartThings home IoT solution creates a more convenient apartment lifestyle by allowing residents to ▲control a wide range of devices in the home—home appliances, lighting, air conditioners and heaters, ventilation systems, motorized blinds and curtains, and more—from a single place, and ▲manage convenience information in an integrated way, including elevator calls, parking information, unmanned parcel delivery management, and visitor vehicle registration.
The upgraded home IoT solution is characterized by a main screen for the smart apartment feature within SmartThings that is built around a Map View based on the floor plan of the specific household. Using an image that reflects the actual layout of the home, residents can grasp and control device status, temperature and air quality, and energy usage by room at a glance, making it more intuitive to use than the previous approach of simply listing device icons.
In particular, once a smart apartment is connected, devices are automatically linked and sorted by room without residents having to set each device's location themselves. In addition to showing all devices, the screen can also group and display only the relevant devices by concept, such as heating and cooling devices, air quality devices, ceiling lighting, and power consumption. Samsung plans to extend the value of the home IoT offered by SmartThings to a variety of residential formats beyond apartments, such as premium detached homes like townhouses and the increasingly popular shared housing.
Park Chan-woo, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Digital Appliances Business, said, "With the newly updated 'Map View' feature, Samsung Electronics' SmartThings home IoT solution automatically places the home's various devices within each room while also letting users grasp everything at a glance, delivering a differentiated user experience," adding, "Going forward, we will strive to introduce home IoT solutions that can elevate the quality of living not only in apartments but across a variety of residential formats."
