Wins the top honor, the ‘Grand Prix,’ at the ‘2022 Ergonomic Design Award’
Users can directly choose panels to suit a variety of usage environments
Samsung Electronics announced that its BESPOKE 1-Door refrigerator has won the ‘Grand Prix Award,’ the top prize at the ‘2022 Ergonomic Design Award’ hosted by the Ergonomics Society of Korea.
The award-winning lineup includes not only the BESPOKE 1-Door refrigerator but also the ‘BESPOKE Infinite Line’ 1-Door refrigerator, which was unveiled for the first time this past February.
Now in its 22nd year, the Ergonomic Design Award evaluates and recognizes products from the consumer’s perspective based on criteria such as △ease of use, △efficiency, △functionality, △emotional quality, and △stability. Among these, the Grand Prix, which the Samsung BESPOKE 1-Door refrigerator claimed, is given to the product judged most ergonomically outstanding across all categories, including home appliances, furniture, and automobiles.
The BESPOKE 1-Door refrigerator can be combined as a freezer, refrigerator, wine cellar, or kimchi refrigerator to match the user’s lifestyle, and its distinctive feature is that users can directly select panels to suit a variety of usage environments. In addition, its design prioritizes the user’s movement flow above all, making it efficient and convenient to use.
By applying a ‘Kitchen Fit’ design that precisely matches the 700 mm average depth of domestic kitchen cabinets, the refrigerator does not protrude from the cabinetry as conventional refrigerators tended to do, and therefore does not obstruct the consumer’s movement within the kitchen.
In particular, this year the refrigerator newly features an ‘Auto Open Door’ function that lets users open the door simply by bringing a hand close to the sensor located on the door, relieving the strain felt in the wrist and shoulder when gripping a handle to open the door. This sensor is positioned at a height that children and people with disabilities can also touch without difficulty.
The BESPOKE 1-Door refrigerator is designed so that the most frequently used items can be placed in the most easily accessible locations for convenient use. Examples include the ‘Multi Pantry,’ which allows optimal temperature settings tailored to ingredients that are difficult to store, and the ‘Dual Ice Maker,’ which automatically produces two types of ice.
In addition, the Autofill water purifier automatically fills a 1.4-liter water tank and keeps the water chilled, reducing the time spent standing in front of the refrigerator to fill up while also allowing more hygienic use thanks to its location inside the product.
Beyond this, the product earned praise for its differentiated usability, including △‘Tunnel Lighting,’ which illuminates every corner of the refrigerator with lighting on three sides so users can easily check stored items; △‘Foldable Shelves,’ which apply an operating method that requires less force when adjusting depth as well as spacing that takes the width of the hand into account; and △energy management and wine storage functions available through the ‘SmartThings’ app.
