<AIR MASS: The Path the Wind Travels>
Lotte Gallery is presenting artist Osang Gwon's solo exhibition <AIR MASS: The Path the Wind Travels> through July 16.
Osang Gwon, a master of 'photo sculpture,' is a renowned artist well known to the public through collaborations with a variety of brands such as Hermès and BMW. He has drawn worldwide attention through his participation in leading art museums and art biennales around the globe, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England.
Having expanded new horizons in sculpture through his distinctive artistic world of joining photographs together using collage techniques, the artist is presenting nine new works created for this exhibition, along with six pieces from his 'AIR MASS' series and 12 'Deodorant Type' works, brought together in one place for the first time. The 'AIR MASS' series consists of balloon-shaped sculptures enormously enlarged in scale by injecting air inside, created with inspiration from the bronze sculptures of British abstract sculptor Henry Moore.
With massive sculptures exceeding 3.2 meters in height and 6 meters in width filling the roughly 330-square-meter (100-pyeong) exhibition space, visitors stroll among the works and walk the path of the wind. The mirrored columns placed between the works create a sense of infinitely expanding space, offering a fantastical experience akin to walking through a maze garden.
Meanwhile, beginning with this collaboration with Osang Gwon, Lotte Department Store is preparing an abundant lineup of projects this year where art meets fashion. This coming autumn, an exhibition by celebrated Japanese fashion designer Yasuhiro Mihara is planned, along with a collaboration between Mihara and ELDEN.
