‘Think Green’ chosen as slogan
Samhwa Paint Ind. Co., Ltd. has developed a paint container with biodegradable properties and applied it to its premium water-based paint.
To develop the container, Samhwa Paint signed a business agreement in January of last year with SK Leaveo, an investor in SKC’s biodegradable materials business, and with P&B, a container manufacturing specialist, and the parties have since collaborated on joint research and development.
The ‘biodegradable paint container’ unveiled by Samhwa Paint is made by combining PBAT (Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate), a biodegradable material, with natural limestone. Unlike the oxo-biodegradable method, which breaks down through the addition of degradation accelerators, PBAT decomposes through natural elements such as microorganisms, heat and moisture, and under composting conditions more than 90% degrades within six months to return to nature.
The biodegradable paint container was first applied to the premium water-based paint ‘iLux 10L.’ The iLux series is built on the concept of being safe even for spaces where children are present. This product is an eco-friendly paint embodying both environmental friendliness and high quality, and has earned the Eco-Label certification, Korea’s leading eco-friendly certification.
Samhwa Paint applied the slogan ‘Think Green’ to the container and adopted an intuitive design suited to the material’s characteristic of returning to nature. Through this, Samhwa Paint plans to encourage eco-friendly choices among consumers.
An official from Samhwa Paint said, “We are accelerating the development of eco-friendly technologies to realize environmental protection and eco-friendly values,” adding, “To broaden the range of choices available to consumers, we plan to gradually expand the application of the biodegradable paint container.”
Meanwhile, as part of its ESG management, Samhwa Paint is building a diverse portfolio of eco-friendly products, including water-based, bio and recycled paints.
