Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I)

Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), the global lighting company leading the way in connected lighting, has released its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (hereinafter DE&I) report.

In September 2020, Signify announced its five-year plan, ‘Brighter Lives, Better World 2025,’ a new sustainability program designed to multiply its impact on the environment and society. Through this program, Signify pledged to strengthen diversity and inclusion in order to provide quality jobs, economic growth, and a great place to work, stating that it would expand women in leadership positions to more than 34%.

Following this announcement, Signify recently released its DE&I report and reported that it has achieved gender pay equity. Signify explained that it has ensured employees performing the same or similar work within the organization can receive equal pay regardless of gender. In addition, the company took a step closer to its goal of doubling the proportion of women in leadership by the end of 2025, having increased the share of female leaders from 17% in 2019 to 23% in 2020 and 25% in 2021.

Signify is currently focusing on increasing the proportion of women in leadership positions and among new hires as its top DE&I priorities. In fact, Signify’s share of women among new hires increased from 15% in 2020 to 18% in 2021. Furthermore, the proportion of women among new recruits rose from 49% to 51%, and the proportion of women in the total workforce rose from 39% to 40%. In particular, in the R&D division, which has traditionally had a high proportion of men, the share of women improved significantly from 31% to 41%.

Meanwhile, Signify appointed its first-ever DE&I director to achieve its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals even more quickly. In addition, team members in each country are working to identify and address the most pressing issues in their regions, taking into account specific cultures such as ethnicity/race, LGBTQ+, mental health, disability, and cultural diversity.
