EAGON Windows (CEO Choi Kyu-hwan), a company specializing in premium system windows, announced that it has been selected as a 'World Class Company.'
The World Class program is a project supported by the government and promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to help mid-sized companies with strong growth ambition and technological potential enter new markets and develop future strategic technologies, thereby accelerating corporate growth and strengthening global competitiveness.
At the '2023 World Class Company Selection Ceremony' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on July 20, EAGON Windows was selected as a World Class Company in the vacuum glazing field, and will receive KRW 3 billion in research and development funding over four years. The selection as a World Class Company is attributed to the unrivaled performance of EAGON Windows' vacuum glazing, along with its differentiation strategy based on mass-production technology for vacuum glazing and its future growth potential.
Glass is a key variable in a building's insulation performance. In the case of large high-rise buildings whose exterior walls are finished with curtain walls, the insulation performance of the glass in particular determines energy efficiency. 'SUPER Vacuum Glazing,' the insulating glass developed by EAGON Windows, delivers insulation and sound-blocking performance comparable to a 260 mm building exterior wall despite its thin thickness of 27.25 mm. In terms of thermal transmittance (U-value), the indicator for insulation performance, 'SUPER Vacuum Glazing' outperforms the flagship low-E double glazing product by more than four times.
EAGON Windows' vacuum glazing is also effective in raising the Light To Solar Gain (LSG), an indoor comfort index. LSG is an indicator showing that indoor spaces remain comfortable even in hot summers by transmitting the sun's visible light while blocking its intense heat. The higher the LSG, the brighter the interior stays while cooling loads can be effectively reduced.
Being the world's first to obtain German Passive House certification in the vacuum glazing field, EAGON Windows has proven its unrivaled technology and product capability, and is focusing on preventing energy loss through windows. Through this, the company is making a significant contribution to the national greenhouse gas reduction target (NDC), which requires the domestic building sector to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 32.8% (35 million tons) by 2030 compared to 2018.
EAGON Windows' vacuum glazing achieves Grade 1 window energy consumption efficiency as a single-pane window while markedly reducing the thickness of the window. This secures more interior space and allows a clearer view compared to double-pane windows.
EAGON Windows has moved to expand the scope of vacuum glazing commercialization beyond general apartment housing, public facilities, and commercial offices. The vacuum layer between the panes offers excellent anti-condensation performance, and as external factors causing condensation have increased due to recent climate anomalies, EAGON Windows expects that introducing vacuum glazing into farm crop-cultivation environments will help improve the productivity of high-quality agricultural produce.
