Special coating saves 25% in annual heating and cooling energy and reduces carbon emissions

Delivers both heat-shielding and insulation performance with a single application during installation

EUCNC, an environmentally focused specialty coatings technology developer, announced that it has developed an eco-friendly heat-shielding and insulating coating through Korea Western Power's Corporate Voluntary Win-Win Program.

The product developed by EUCNC is a special coating that can reduce heating and cooling energy by 8 to 13℃ (a 25% annual saving) and cut carbon emissions. By combining solid beads—sized and sphericized to the appropriate specifications to reflect near-infrared electromagnetic waves—with hollow beads that block heat conduction, and through the mixing ratio and overall composition, it delivers both heat-shielding and insulation performance at the same time.

In addition, it is designed to deliver its performance with a single application during installation, which is expected to shorten installation time and thereby cut labor costs. The product also earned Eco-Label certification as an environmentally friendly water-based product, containing no hazardous elements (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr6+, VAC) and ZERO-level VOCS and formaldehyde content.

Because EUCNC's paint-form product has secured performance certification for thermal conductivity and solar reflectance, the company expects it can be applied to major government and related facilities that need energy and carbon reductions.

In particular, the company anticipates the product will gain momentum as the mandatory adoption of 'zero-energy' building phases is being pursued through 2030, beginning with public buildings of 1,000㎡ or larger in 2020. A zero-energy building is one that maximizes insulation performance to minimize the building's energy load and uses new and renewable energy to supply the energy needed for the building's functions. The government has a plan to reduce emissions by 37% against BAU (the projected greenhouse gas emissions for 2030) by 2030.

EUCNC emphasized that applying the coating to industrial facilities that require exterior painting to protect against solar heat—such as high-voltage power transmission equipment and chemical storage tanks—can improve stability and production efficiency.

EUCNC, a venture company founded three years ago, also received support for producing a promotional video after joining Korea Western Power's program to build brand recognition. Aiming to grow twofold compared to last year, EUCNC plans to expand into Vietnam, the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia, and Russia. It has completed sample exports to Indonesia and Myanmar, and in March of this year it pursued an agreement with a Russian railway company and completed the establishment of a Russian corporation. Testing of a rail temperature-reduction coating with Russia's state-owned railway corporation is planned to proceed after reviewing the international situation.
