Seoul's first-ever store in a mixed-use shopping mall format
Scheduled to open in the second half of 2024, with a total floor area of 58,711㎡
IKEA Korea, the home furnishing retail company, has announced the opening of its IKEA Gangdong store with a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new IKEA mixed-use complex on the Godeok Business Valley site in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
The ceremony was attended by some 60 officials, including Fredrik Johansson, CEO of IKEA Korea, Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Jung-hoon, District Council Chairman Hwang Ju-young, National Assembly members Lee Hae-sik and Jin Sun-mi, and JK Mirae Co., Ltd. CEO Jeon Gye-hyeong.
The IKEA Gangdong store is IKEA Korea's first large-scale store in a mixed-use shopping mall format, as well as the first IKEA store located within Seoul. Godeok Business Valley will be built with 21 floors above ground and 6 floors below ground, with a total floor area of 300,810.75㎡, and is set to house a movie theater, shopping mall, offices and more. Of this, the IKEA Gangdong store will occupy a total floor area of 58,711㎡ including parking, with completion targeted for the second half of 2024.
The IKEA Gangdong store boasts excellent transportation infrastructure, including the Olympic Expressway, the Seoul Ring Expressway, the Gangil IC, and Subway Line 5, offering outstanding accessibility not only for customers in Gangdong-gu but also for those living in Seoul and the eastern Gyeonggi region. It is also expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy through the creation of new jobs and the expansion of the home furnishing market.
