Hyundai E&C announced that it will debut an integrated indoor-outdoor autonomous robot delivery service—co-developed with Hyundai Motor Group startup ‘Mobinn’—at ‘THE H Daechi Edelui,’ slated for completion this June, and that it plans to gradually expand the application of its D2D (Door to Door) robot delivery service across apartment complexes.
A first for a domestic builder, this autonomous D2D robot delivery service not only links with wireless communication and control systems but is also equipped with an unmanned elevator boarding and alighting function, enabling seamless travel along the entire route—from the road to the underground parking garage, the building’s main entrance, the elevator, and finally the front door of each unit.
After successfully completing a demonstration of its autonomous robot delivery service last year for residents of the detached townhouse ‘Hillstate Lapiano Samsong,’ Hyundai E&C signed a business agreement with Hyundai Elevator early this year and formally declared the commercialization of the service through the application of intelligent technology.
In particular, this upgraded technology incorporates intelligent capabilities that allow the robot to assess situations and make decisions on its own in a variety of circumstances—including an unmanned automatic call function that lets the robot summon the elevator by itself, the ability to re-call the elevator if the destination floor is canceled, and the ability to determine when the elevator has exceeded its passenger capacity.
In addition, the autonomous delivery robot developed by Mobinn applies technology that imposes no constraints on movement, making it usable for a wide range of purposes such as parcel and food delivery and patrolling. Its in-house-developed special rubber-wheel structure makes it easy to overcome obstacles such as stairs, while a cargo-bay leveling function ensures the safety of the goods being carried. Equipped with 3D LiDAR and cameras, it can recognize the surrounding terrain and objects and make comprehensive judgments about its situation, and with a patrol mode during idle time, it is even capable of autonomous driving specialized for pedestrian safety.
