Samwon Paper, Korea's first complex paper cultural space where you can purchase a wide variety of papers from around the world
A paper complex cultural space offering printing and sample mockup package production has opened
Samwon Paper (CEO Lee Yeon-wook), Korea's largest specialty paper company, has opened 'The Paper Lab,' Korea's first paper complex cultural space where everything from purchasing 3,400 kinds of paper from around the world to printing and producing sample mockup packages is possible, in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.
The Paper Lab is a space where designers who work with paper can view at a glance the diverse papers sold around the world, purchase paper by size, print custom orders by paper type, and easily produce sample mockup packages—all in one place.
Spanning approximately 396.7㎡ (about 120 pyeong), The Paper Lab is the largest paper-themed cultural space in Korea. Using a laboratory (LAB) as its spatial concept, it is organized into eight main zones—including a design reference area, printing lab, paper library, bunker gallery, photo studio, and seminar room—designed so that visitors can view, feel, and experience paper from various perspectives.
At The Paper Lab, a paper expert 'Paper Genius' and a printing expert 'Print Genius' are on hand to provide professional consulting to visiting customers on everything from purchasing paper to printing and information on production companies.
Customers who visit The Paper Lab can examine about 3,400 kinds of paper in person and purchase paper in the size they want, or print their materials using the custom printing equipment in the printing lab. In addition, they can produce paper package samples using a flatbed cutter, or photograph the samples they have made right in the photo studio.
Lee Yeon-wook, CEO of Samwon Paper, said, "The Paper Lab is a complex cultural space where the general public can experience diverse papers from around the world, and at the same time a professional paper consulting space where paper designers can break through the uncertainty they previously feared by producing actual sample mockups using Samwon Paper's paper, and challenge themselves to use the world's finest papers." He added, "Going forward, we will make The Paper Lab into Korea's premier paper complex cultural space and contribute to the development of Korea's design industry."
Meanwhile, to coincide with the opening of The Paper Lab, Samwon Paper is holding various paper-themed exhibitions. It plans to showcase award-winning works from The Type Directors Club (hereinafter TDC), a leading global typography organization, at The Paper Lab until April 11. Samwon Paper has been planning and operating domestic exhibitions in an exclusive partnership with TDC since 2012. This exhibition will fully present to domestic designers the beauty of typography—an indispensable element of design—along with leading works from Korea and abroad.
