Distributes Guidelines and Visits Sites Nationwide
Hyundai Elevator is carrying out inspection activities at elevator maintenance and management sites across the country in preparation for the monsoon season, including torrential downpours.
Hyundai Elevator has mobilized its roughly 50 centers across 16 branch offices responsible for elevator maintenance and management services to conduct comprehensive inspections and preventive activities at sites nationwide (193,219 units). This inspection, which began in June, focuses on preventive checks against flooding and water leakage caused by heavy rain, as well as on communicating safety guidelines such as how to respond.
As breakdowns caused by summer rainfall—including torrential downpours driven by recent abnormal weather—increase, the importance of elevator safety management is coming to the fore. This is because flood damage to buildings such as apartments and commercial complexes can also affect elevators. In fact, during last year's monsoon season, reports of damage from flooding and water leakage rose, disrupting elevator operation and causing inconvenience for residents. These activities are part of an effort to prevent such incidents.
Ahead of the monsoon season, Hyundai Elevator began distributing guidelines to customers in June that outline preventive measures and response methods related to flooding and high temperatures. The guidelines include the following instructions: △close windows around machine rooms and landings during rainfall △carry out waterproofing work in advance at points prone to leakage △keep rooftop drains clean and install protective barriers when washing with water △cut off the power supply when a building is flooded △regularly remove foreign objects from elevator doors △check the ventilation status of machine rooms and manage temperature.
A Hyundai Elevator official said, "As cases of damage from torrential downpours are gradually increasing, we are conducting inspections as a preventive measure," adding, "If a malfunction occurs due to heavy rain, such as electrical leakage or water leakage, we ask that customers refrain from operating the equipment on their own, immediately cut off the elevator's power supply, and then report it to a customer service center or the relevant maintenance provider to receive appropriate measures."
In summer in particular, apart from torrential downpours, problems such as malfunctions and shortened component lifespans caused by high temperatures like heat waves also occur from time to time. For this reason, overheating prevention activities are also necessary, such as devising ventilation and airflow measures to keep machine room temperatures from exceeding 40 degrees. Hyundai Elevator has included such summer elevator management methods in its guidelines as well, promoting safe elevator operation.
