High-end to premium brands such as Molteni and Nolte at a glance — a leap toward becoming a 'high-end design hub'
NEXUS, a company specializing in high-end interiors, has renovated its 'NEXUS Flagship Seoul Gallery (Seoul Gallery),' which opened in November 2019 at the Hakdong Intersection, the heart of the furniture street in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul. The renovation was carried out to mark the third anniversary of the Seoul Gallery's opening. Nolte, Germany's No. 1 kitchen furniture brand, has moved in, and new products from the Italian luxury kitchen brand DADA and the Spanish outdoor design furniture brand Kettal are also on display.
NEXUS was founded in 1992 to target customers seeking ultra-high-end furniture and interiors. It distributes world-class brand products across a range of categories including kitchen furniture, living room furniture, bedroom furniture, and lighting, and also sells its own premium products. Furthermore, it continues to grow by proposing designs that span the entire interior field, including building materials. The Seoul Gallery is a space where visitors can experience NEXUS's designs. It opened in 2019, designed by architect Bae Dae-yong, who oversaw the construction of high-end residences such as 'Nine One Hannam.'
Among the flagship brands that can be seen at the Seoul Gallery are Molteni&C, the residential furniture line of Italy's luxury furniture group Molteni, along with the kitchen furniture brand DADA and the Italian high-end bathroom brand Gessi. It also sells accessories such as Fontana Arte, the world-renowned Italian lighting brand. In particular, the second floor of the Seoul Gallery features 'Real House,' a 264-square-meter (80-pyeong) model home outfitted with products from these brands. It is a space where visitors can directly experience top 1% interiors priced at around 15 million won per pyeong.
The Seoul Gallery serves as a 'base camp' for NEXUS to expand its business into the business-to-consumer (B2C) market. In the three years since the Seoul Gallery opened, NEXUS's B2C revenue has grown by more than 50%. This growth is expected to continue this year as well, with annual revenue projected to surpass 21 billion won. Over the same period, the number of visitors increased by an average of 15% per year. Buoyed by this B2C revenue growth, NEXUS expects to reach 150 billion won in revenue this year.
Through the Seoul Gallery renovation, NEXUS is unveiling a variety of new displays. First, the fifth floor now houses a showroom for Nolte, Germany's No. 1 kitchen furniture brand. Founded in 1923, Nolte is a brand that offers customers a wide range of choices, including 268 types of doors and 34 types of cabinet finishes. The new showroom presents a total of six premium space designs, including the 'New Classic' kitchen — a modern reinterpretation of the 'Classic' line launched in 2021 — and creative storage spaces incorporating washing machines, dryers, and baskets.
New product lineups from the high-end brands it already distributes are also on display. DADA is exhibiting new products such as 'Armani DADA,' a collaboration with designer brand Giorgio Armani, and 'Ratio,' which combines metal panel edges between doors to present a simple and harmonious space. Kettal is presenting a variety of new products for the living room, such as mesh sofas and tables imbued with a trendy sensibility.
NEXUS plans to offer consumers an even wider range of space designs through new products from brands leading the high-end furniture market as well as Nolte, which meets diverse customer needs while remaining accessible. Through this, the company aims to strengthen NEXUS's influence across the entire high-end to premium market. It also plans to accelerate its business-to-business (B2B) operations, such as high-end new apartments and townhouses, targeting both the redevelopment market and general consumers at the same time.
Meanwhile, the premium furniture and interior market continues to grow. Statistics Korea projected that the domestic household furniture market, worth about 10 trillion won in 2020, would grow to around 18 trillion won by 2023. With an estimated 10–15% of the overall furniture market accounted for by premium furniture, the premium furniture market is also expected to surpass 2 trillion won in the near future.
