Hyundai Engineering has donated modular homes to four households facing disaster-related hardship in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, and Seongju County, North Gyeongsang Province.
On July 28, Hyundai Engineering held a move-in ceremony for the ‘Gift House Campaign Season 7’ in Gwanghwal-myeon, Gimje, North Jeolla Province, attended by Gimje Mayor Park Jun-bae; Kim Sang-ho, site manager of Hyundai Engineering’s Saemangeum Onshore Solar Zone 1 Power Generation Project; Kim Jung-hee, Secretary-General of the National Disaster Relief Association; Lee In-sik, head of Saemangeum Hope Solar Co., Ltd.; and Ko Hee-sung, head of the Saemangeum Development Corporation, among others.
Now in its seventh year, the ‘Gift House Campaign’ is one of Hyundai Engineering’s flagship social contribution activities, donating its in-house developed ‘modular homes’ to vulnerable households that have suffered disasters such as fires or that face disaster risk due to severely deteriorated housing. Beginning in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, in 2015, the company has now donated a total of 32 Gift Houses across 13 regions nationwide, including this latest round in Gimje and Seongju.
This year, funding was provided by Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Engineering, the Construction Industry Social Contribution Foundation, and the Korea Foundation for Cooperation of Large & Small Business, Rural Affairs.
In addition, Hyundai Engineering provided the modular technology to build the Gift Houses, local governments supported the foundation work and utilities, and the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association handled project implementation and management.
Season after season, Hyundai Engineering has continuously incorporated residents’ feedback to significantly enhance the livability of the modular homes, while also reinforcing their structural stability so that residents can escape disaster risk and enjoy a comfortable and safe living environment.
A Hyundai Engineering official said, “Even amid a social climate that has made carrying out social contribution activities very difficult due to COVID-19, we have helped stabilize the housing of four families in disaster-related crisis through this ‘Gift House Campaign Season 7.’ In line with the recent social contribution trend emphasizing non-face-to-face approaches, we will develop a variety of measures that allow us to thrive together with local communities.”
