MOU Signed to Develop ‘MIRI-VIEW’
Hyundai Elevator and LG U+ announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate on the ‘development and expansion of the MIRI-VIEW system,’ which protects passenger safety by applying intelligent video analytics and voice recognition technology.
MIRI-VIEW is an intelligent safety system that analyzes passengers’ movements, voices and other data, and when an emergency is detected inside an elevator, artificial intelligence (AI) alerts the customer center and elevator safety managers to the danger. Its name carries the meaning of ‘viewing in advance to protect passenger safety.’
With conventional elevator emergency call devices, the situation was conveyed by voice only, which could cause distortions due to differences in situational awareness between the occupant and the responder. With MIRI-VIEW, the moment a call is made, Hyundai Elevator’s Customer Care Center can monitor the scene through both video and audio, grasp the passenger’s situation, and respond swiftly.
Lim Jang-hyuk, Executive Vice President and Head of LG U+’s Enterprise New Business Group, said, “By continuing our joint development cooperation with Hyundai Elevator, safety is being strengthened across every stage of elevator operation, from the installation site to passenger safety,” adding, “Going forward, we will continue to cooperate with Hyundai Elevator to deliver customer value that only LG U+ can provide.”
Starting with this MOU, Hyundai Elevator plans to conduct a pilot program in the first half of 2023 and launch the full service in June. Last year, the two companies established a worker safety system by jointly developing smart safety equipment optimized for elevator installation sites.
Do Ik-han, Head of Hyundai Elevator’s Service Business Division, explained, “This is a system that can protect passenger safety not only at sites where emergencies may occur—such as residential facilities and nursing hospitals that lack a separate management office and require rapid response when an incident occurs—but also at commercial and public facilities where an unspecified number of people come and go.”
