Design of 'The EL Emotion'
Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) announced that it has received the Winner prize in the Public Space category of Germany's Red Dot Design Award for 'The EL Emotion,' which reinterprets the elevator as a seamless space by making use of light and shadow.
With this award, Hyundai Elevator has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the first company in the elevator industry to win at all three of the world's most prestigious design competitions, following the U.S. IDEA (2018) and Germany's iF Design Award (2017).
The EL Emotion, entered through an industry-academic partnership with Hongik University's International Design School for Advanced Studies (IDAS), takes natural lighting as its motif and implements floor buttons, information displays, and interior lighting through active beam projection. Designed around the concept of seamless communication with customers, the entry not only recognizes a passenger's height or characteristics to automatically adjust the position of the buttons, but also allows the interior lighting to change in various ways to suit the situation.
A Hyundai Elevator official said, "As elevators serve as a medium connecting one space to another, the importance of service design grounded in the user experience is being increasingly emphasized," adding, "In line with our product philosophy of pursuing Vertical e-Mobility, we will continue to communicate with customers through user-centered, seamless design."
Meanwhile, keeping pace with the evolving trends of urban architecture, Hyundai Elevator provides the finest mobility services in the elevator field—including elevators, escalators, and moving walkways—to deliver the fastest, most convenient, and safest travel experience.
