Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) held a knowledge conference on March 17 on the metaverse platform ‘Gather Town,’ sharing the research activities of its Global CoP (Community of Practice)—an in-house voluntary learning organization—with employees at home and abroad.
The metaverse is a compound of ‘Meta,’ meaning ‘virtual,’ and ‘Universe,’ meaning the ‘real world’—a virtual space created so that avatars can engage in various social and cultural activities online. ‘Gather Town,’ the platform on which Hyundai Elevator built its knowledge conference environment, links the metaverse with video conferencing, enabling expatriate managers and local staff at overseas subsidiaries to participate without spatial constraints, personally introduce their local cultures, and communicate and share information with head office employees in real time.
Hyundai Elevator introduced the Global CoP knowledge conference in 2018 to strengthen its employees’ global competencies. Participants share the results of their research on the elevator and construction markets, real estate policies, and consumer trends of the company’s key markets—China, Turkey, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia—thereby helping employees improve their cross-cultural understanding. Last year, amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the conference was conducted as a live broadcast via a video conferencing solution.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Elevator, which built a smart factory in the Jinshan Industrial Zone of Shanghai, China, in the first half of 2021, completed the relocation of its headquarters to the smart campus established in Chungju this past February. The company is accelerating efforts to strengthen its competitiveness through digital innovation, including the application of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as IoT, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI).
