Practicing ESG Management Through Employment of People with Disabilities
Directly Employing People with Disabilities Residing in Chungju
Hyundai Elevator announced that on January 11 it signed a “Business Agreement for Practicing ESG Management Through Expanded Employment of People with Disabilities” with the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities, and that it will launch a choir composed of people with disabilities from the Chungju area.
Hyundai Elevator plans to directly employ 20 choir members with mild to severe disabilities and provide a dedicated rehearsal space. It also plans to support their activities by appointing Park Kyung-hwan, chairman of the Chungju City Vocal Music Research Association (a graduate of the Department of Vocal Music at Seoul National University), as conductor, and by hiring a professional vocal trainer and accompanist. CEO Cho Jae-cheon said, “We plan to create opportunities for our choir members to take the stage themselves, including at local events,” adding, “We will support our members so that, through music, they can establish themselves as members of the local community.”
At the business agreement ceremony held at the Hyundai Group Building (Jongno-gu, Seoul) with officials including CEO Cho Jae-cheon and Cho Hyang-hyun, chairman of the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities, in attendance, Chairman Cho said, “I hope this will become an exemplary case of a large corporation that has relocated to a regional area contributing to the local community by expanding jobs for people with disabilities.”
Hyundai Elevator, which established an ESG subcommittee under its board of directors in June last year, has been strengthening its ESG management, including by delivering some 1,700 items donated by executives and employees, along with a “donation for building a workplace for people with disabilities,” to Goodwill Store, a shop that employs people with disabilities, in December. In addition, in December last year Hyundai Elevator held its “2023 Social Contribution Scholarship Award Ceremony,” presenting a total of 21 million won—1 million won each—to 21 middle and high school students in Chungju, where its headquarters is located, and in Ipjang-myeon, Cheonan, where its logistics center is located.
