A gateway for Korea’s leading interior architecture designers
KCC Glass co-hosts with the Korea Society of Interior Architects/designers (KOSID)
HomeCC, the interior specialty brand of KCC Glass (CEO Kim Nae-hwan), held the awards ceremony for the ‘33rd 2021 Korea Interior Architecture Competition,’ co-hosted with the Korea Society of Interior Architects/designers (KOSID), on November 6 at the Hongik University Daehak-ro Art Center.
With its long history and tradition, the Korea Interior Architecture Competition is regarded as one of Korea’s premier interior architecture design events, serving as a gateway for up-and-coming designers. KCC Glass has co-hosted the competition for 12 consecutive years since 2010 to help broaden the base of interior architecture design and support the discovery of talent.
This year’s competition, marking its 33rd edition, drew a large number of talented future designers, and a wide range of creative works earned the honor of an award. Beginning with the submission of entries this past July, first- and second-round judging was conducted, and of the 254 total entries, about 100 were selected as final award winners: △Grand Prize (1) △Best Award (2) △Excellence Award (5) △Encouragement Award (16) △Special Selection (37) △Honorable Mention (47). The Grand Prize winner received a certificate and prize money of 6 million won, and the Best Award winners each received a certificate and prize money of 3 million won, while the remaining winners were also each given a certificate and prize money.
The honor of the Grand Prize went to the team of Ju Jin-hyung, Kim Hyo-bin, and Seo Jeong-woo of Hansei University, who submitted a work titled ‘A Pleasure-Cruise Space of Reminiscent Illusion Dreaming of the Ideal.’ The Grand Prize-winning work was designed to transform movie theaters—driven into crisis by COVID-19—into spaces where modern people pursue happiness, and it earned high praise from the judges for its groundbreaking spatial composition that gives visitors the illusion of becoming the protagonist of a film even after the movie has ended.
Mo Jung-hyun, president of the co-hosting Korea Society of Interior Architects/designers, said, “The Korea Interior Architecture Competition is one of Korea’s representative interior architecture design events and has established itself as a gateway for interior architecture designers,” adding, “We will continue to create diverse opportunities so that young people can freely unfold their creative ideas and be duly recognized as designers.”
A HomeCC official said, “The Korea Interior Architecture Competition is a meaningful contest where we can meet capable and fresh future designers,” adding, “HomeCC will continue its support so that young talents in the field of interior architecture design can contribute to taking the interior industry one step further.”
