Dongkuk Steel: Luxteel and Coated Steel Sheet

Boosting Export Competitiveness of Eco-Friendly Steel

Dongkuk Steel's Luxteel and coated steel sheet (GI, GL) have obtained the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification from UL (Underwriter's Laboratory), a U.S.-based global safety and environmental agency.

The leading international EPD certifications are Europe's International EPD and the U.S. UL EPD. The certification is granted to products that quantify and disclose the environmental impact across the entire life cycle, from raw material extraction through production, distribution, use and disposal.

Dongkuk Steel completed the European International EPD certification for Luxteel and coated steel sheet (GI, GL) in December of last year, and with this additional acquisition of the UL EPD, the company is now able to enhance the export competitiveness of its eco-friendly steel products.

UL is a U.S.-based global safety and environmental certification agency, and is regarded as highly credible, holding 230 testing and certification bodies worldwide and more than 1,600 environmental, safety and security certification standards.

Dongkuk Steel's Luxteel and coated steel sheet (GI, GL) account for more than half of the annual export sales of the company's cold-rolled division.

Dongkuk Steel established its second coil center in Mexico in March. The company expects that this acquisition of the UL EPD will strengthen its color-coated steel sheet export competitiveness in the Americas.

In November 2021, Dongkuk Steel obtained GR certification (certification for the use of domestic recycled raw materials) for the rebar and section steel products of its Incheon and Pohang plants from the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and it continues to expand the scope of the certification.

Dongkuk Steel plans to pursue Environmental Product Declaration certification for all products across all of its plants going forward.
