New Dedicated Green Management Division Established at the ‘2021 Carbon Neutral Green Management Awards’
Eco-Friendly ESG Management That Minimizes Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Environmental Pollution
Himpel (CEO Kim Jung-hwan), a company specializing in ventilation appliances, announced that it received a Presidential Citation in the organization category of the 2021 Carbon Neutral Green Management Awards in recognition of its eco-friendly management practices.
The Carbon Neutral Green Management Awards is an awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, which each year selects and honors companies and individuals that have contributed to building green management systems and revitalizing eco-friendly industries.
Himpel earned high marks for pursuing eco-friendly management that minimizes greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution through the establishment of a dedicated green management division. The company plans to focus this year on laying the foundation for eco-friendly management, and starting next year, to firmly establish an eco-friendly ESG management system by embedding green management into its management goals and strategies.
The dedicated green management division will prioritize short-term action plans such as △developing and researching eco-friendly ventilation systems △establishing carbon emission reduction strategies and △expanding green technology product certifications, and will issue a monthly green management report.
Himpel’s eco-friendly management already began with the development of ventilation systems that reduce energy lost through heating and cooling, under the corporate philosophy of “capturing both indoor air quality and energy efficiency.” During indoor and outdoor ventilation, the ventilation systems recover more than 70% of heating energy in winter and more than 50% of cooling energy in summer, making them effective at reducing greenhouse gases through energy savings. Recently, they have been drawing attention as key equipment installed to boost energy efficiency in eco-friendly construction such as green remodeling and zero-energy buildings.
The company is also phasing down the carbon emissions generated directly and indirectly during the product manufacturing process. It is achieving reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by streamlining the product manufacturing process. In addition, it is expanding the application of renewable energy to enhance energy efficiency. Through solar power generation facilities installed on the rooftop (35.77 KWh) and walls (46.62 KWh) of the Himpel headquarters building, the company produced 92,478 KW of electricity last year. This is equivalent to the tree-planting effect of about 6,466 trees. The company also plans to gradually increase the number of green-technology-certified products and their share of sales by next year.
A Himpel official said, “This Presidential Citation at the Carbon Neutral Green Management Awards is a result of recognition for Himpel’s efforts toward eco-friendly management,” adding, “We will do our best to contribute to human health through carbon-free heat-recovery energy technology and to explore various ways to protect the earth and the environment so that we can embrace a better future.”
