KCC has developed 'SMART CANVAS,' an autonomous self-driving painting robot that automates the painting of horizontal surfaces.
'SMART CANVAS' is an innovative robot that realizes the automation of painting work by combining AI (Artificial Intelligence) and AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) technologies. It was developed to recognize the painting space using advanced sensing devices and to perform painting work on its own according to the working conditions set by the user. In line with the government's policy to promote smart construction methods, KCC has been developing an automated painting robot since the end of 2022 in order to dramatically enhance the productivity and efficiency of the construction industry. Building on KCC's painting experience and coating technology accumulated over many years in the field, the company carried out research and development to introduce 'SMART CANVAS' this time.
The greatest advantage of 'SMART CANVAS' is that it enables high-quality painting with a uniform painted surface. When people paint manually, the uniformity of the painted surface may decline depending on their skill level, or additional coats may be required to compensate for this. In contrast, 'SMART CANVAS' was developed with dedicated coatings and painting methods optimized for the robot's characteristics and functions, so that even large spaces can be painted stably while forming a coating film of consistent thickness. In addition, through its Lidar-based autonomous driving function, it can recognize surrounding objects during painting work and drive around them to avoid obstacles while painting. Because it can drive precisely and steadily even amid obstacles or unexpected situations, it can guarantee the stability and quality of the painting work.
KCC expects that once 'SMART CANVAS,' which automates simple and repetitive manual painting work, is commercialized, it will enable painting without paint scattering, thereby improving work efficiency and creating a safer working environment for workers. Furthermore, it is expected to dramatically increase productivity through shorter construction periods, greater efficiency in managing manpower, and improved quality. Having successfully developed 'SMART CANVAS,' KCC plans to play an important role in smart construction projects at home and abroad by developing a variety of automation solutions that can lead the advancement of smart construction technology.
