Samhwa Paints Industrial has launched a ‘Color Universal Design Guidebook’ for facilities serving people with developmental disabilities.
Color Universal Design refers to designing colors with consideration for people who have various disabilities or forms of color vision, so that they can use products, buildings, services, and more safely and conveniently. Last year, Samhwa Paints signed a business agreement with the Korea Color Universal Design Association and developed color universal design for facilities serving people with disabilities. Spaces to which color universal design has been applied provide people with disabilities with psychological comfort and a sense of stability, and help improve concentration in program activities, vocational training, and the like.
In fact, over a two-year period from 2020, Samhwa Paints carried out ▲a preliminary color preference survey and brainwave measurements ▲color universal design construction ▲post-construction brainwave testing and surveys, targeting users of disability welfare facilities with various purposes such as daytime care, education, and vocational training. As a result, it was confirmed through objective figures that the anti-stress index and left-right brain balance index of people with disabilities who lived in spaces with color universal design applied had improved.
The newly released ‘Color Universal Design Guidebook’ was created by compiling 64 colors optimized for people with developmental disabilities, and it contains color chips along with guidelines so that colors can be used in various ways depending on the space type.
Lee Sang-hee, head of Samhwa Paints’ Color Design Center, said, “If this newly released guidebook is used at construction or renovation sites for domestic disability facilities, it can provide spaces that consider not only users’ convenience but also their psychological stability,” adding, “Going forward, we plan to develop color universal design that can be applied not only to welfare-purpose disability facilities but also to general residential facilities such as apartments and to commercial spaces.”
Meanwhile, Samhwa Paints was recognized last year for its contribution to developing color universal design for people with disabilities and received the grand prize at the ‘Korea Color Universal Design’ awards hosted by the Korea Color Universal Design Association. 1544-5357
