Bauzen, a brand specializing in sanitary appliances, has launched a shower head equipped with a plant-based PLA filter.
According to the company, the biodegradable (PLA) filter is a plant-based filter made from corn starch. It is 100% biodegradable in nature, offers a carbon emission reduction of about 70% compared to plastic, and is an eco-friendly material that releases no microplastics.
Recently, awareness has been raised over the environmental pollution caused by the disposal of disposable masks and water-purification sediment filters that use filters made of PP (polypropylene). In particular, the company stated that PP water-purification filters and shower filters have been found to wear down under water pressure during use, breaking into small fragments and generating ultrafine plastics. According to recent research, ultrafine plastics are known to threaten ecosystems and have harmful effects on the human body. In response, Bauzen and Ecolgreentech have launched the 'Bauzen Plant-Based PLA Filter Shower Head.' Ecolgreentech is a company that holds numerous patents related to PLA manufacturing, and, according to the company, through joint research with Bauzen it developed a PLA filter that offers excellent filtration performance while generating no microplastics. Beyond shower heads, Bauzen has also developed the filters used in its own water purifiers as PLA filters and is expanding them across its entire product line.
A Bauzen official said, "As concerns grow among consumers not only about drinking water but also about the water they wash with—due to aging pipes and contamination—more households are using shower filters," adding, "If the microplastics released from filters used to block rusty water accumulate in the human body, they can cause yet another problem. To solve these issues, we launched a new product featuring an eco-friendly PLA filter, and we have obtained a patent, earning recognition for our technological capabilities. Going forward, we plan to apply PLA to launch a variety of plastic substitutes that consumers can use with peace of mind."1899-1797
