Shinhan Wallpaper is launching ‘Wallpaper Lab,’ a high-performance silk wallpaper that adsorbs and breaks down formaldehyde, an indoor hazardous substance.
Though invisible to the eye, the living spaces we inhabit contain more hazardous substances than we might think. The various hazardous substances that cause atopic dermatitis, allergies, and sick house syndrome are constantly raised as social issues, yet the reality is that no one has actually found a solution. Formaldehyde, the leading cause of sick house syndrome, is emitted from building materials, flooring, furniture, and the like, triggering symptoms. Frequent ventilation is important to prevent sick house syndrome, but even this is not easy due to the fine dust that occurs regardless of the season.
In response, Shinhan Wallpaper has developed ‘Wallpaper Lab,’ a high-performance silk wallpaper that adsorbs and breaks down indoor formaldehyde, reflecting the trends of the times and the needs of consumers. Living up to its status as a high-performance wallpaper, ‘Wallpaper Lab’ also offers antibacterial and anti-mold effects as well as an odor-eliminating effect for everyday smells, and it satisfies the adsorption standards of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Health-Friendly Housing Construction Standards.’ (*A health-friendly house refers to a house that secures a certain level of indoor air quality and ventilation performance so as to provide residents with a healthy and comfortable indoor environment by improving sick house syndrome; it meets all mandatory standards and complies with two or more of the recommended standards.)
In particular, ‘Wallpaper Lab’ is a product developed jointly by Professor Yoon Kyung-bin of Sogang University—head of the Korea Center for Artificial Photosynthesis and a preeminent leading figure in the field of artificial photosynthesis—and Shinhan Wallpaper’s Research & Development Office. It is a high-performance silk wallpaper incorporating ‘Geo-Care Technology,’ completed after more than three years of numerous experiments and research. ‘Geo-Care Technology’ is a new-material technology that adsorbs and breaks down formaldehyde, a hazardous substance in indoor air, using ‘zeolite,’ a porous natural mineral with countless nano-sized micropores. Formaldehyde adsorption—one of the signature advantages of ‘Wallpaper Lab’—is more than three times as effective as that of conventional ordinary silk wallpaper, and it does not stop at adsorption but goes on to break the substance down.
In addition, ‘Wallpaper Lab’ comes in eye-soothing pastel tones that blend naturally into any space when installed.
