KCC has partnered with Hyundai E&C to jointly develop the ‘Wayfinding System (UDWS, Universal Design Way finding System),’ a universal-design solution for the underground parking garages of Hillstate, Hyundai E&C’s flagship apartment brand.
The Hillstate parking-garage ‘Wayfinding System’ guides apartment residents and visitors so they can reach their destination from the parking garage easily and safely. It helps people find their way and obtain information within the parking garage regardless of gender, age, culture, or even language. This past April, KCC signed an MOU with Hyundai E&C and began jointly developing the ‘Wayfinding System.’ Drawing on its extensive color universal-design expertise, KCC collaborated with Hyundai E&C to ▲apply different colors according to the importance of the information (life and safety, order, directional signage, etc.) and ▲apply a safety color scheme to fire-extinguisher and emergency-bell signs to make them easy to identify. It also ▲applied special neon colors to walkways to account for pedestrian safety. In addition, KCC proposed colors that reflect the surrounding environment and design so that the parking-garage signs and pictograms newly designed by Hyundai E&C stand out even more. KCC is also carrying out product-development research on items such as luminescent special paint that helps people find emergency exits during blackouts. KCC completed research titled ‘Method and Apparatus for Determining the Optimal Color Combination,’ which was used in developing the Hillstate universal ‘Wayfinding System,’ and even obtained a patent for it. Jeong Seong-yun, head of KCC’s Design Team, said, “I believe that concentrating KCC’s accumulated color-design capabilities to spread and advance universal design is a way of creating an environment in which more people can be cared for,” adding, “Going forward, we plan to continue working to raise the value of residential facilities, based on the product technology we have built up over many years and the research know-how of our Design Center, in order to provide customers with better living environments.”
Meanwhile, beyond apartment underground parking garages, KCC has applied color universal design at CGV theaters (Yongsan, Yeongdeungpo, Yeouido, and Gangnam) and Busan’s Seomyeon Station, among other locations, and is continuing to expand its application of design for the convenience and safety of the public. 02-3480-5000
