IKEA has launched 'Mebin,' a limited-edition collection that offers a glimpse into artisans' traditional craft techniques.

'Mebin' is a collection of handmade home accessories that showcases artisans' handcraft skills and techniques while also creating long-term jobs for vulnerable communities. Meaning 'a favorable situation with the wind at your back' in the dialect of the Småland region of southern Sweden where IKEA was founded, 'Mebin' embodies IKEA's commitment to improving the quality of life for many people by supporting economic independence.

These new products make up IKEA's second global social enterprise collection, created in collaboration with seven social enterprises working for marginalized communities and vulnerable regions across Asia. Since 2012, IKEA has partnered with social enterprises to contribute to the economic independence of vulnerable groups, creating jobs with a focus on producing global products that can be manufactured on a large scale.

Key products in the 'Mebin' collection include ▲a 'lampshade' hand-woven from banana fiber stems, allowing light to diffuse softly through its irregular weave; ▲a 'basket' woven from jute and embroidered with colorful thread to bring life to the kitchen; ▲an 'apron' made from surplus denim fabric left over from overproduction, growing more stylish with every wash; and ▲a 'cushion cover' featuring small heart-shaped embroidery on vibrantly colored fabric, created to provide more jobs for women artisans.

Pauline Machado, Product Development and Production Designer at IKEA, said, "IKEA wanted to showcase the essence of craftsmanship and handcraft while helping more people become economically independent," adding, "Through the Mebin collection, we hope people will decorate homes full of personality with beautiful handcrafted home accessories and join us in creating a better life for more people."

Meanwhile, the 'Mebin' collection is available at all IKEA Korea stores (Gwangmyeong, Goyang, Giheung, and Dongbusan), the official online mall and app, and 'Hej Order,' a remote ordering service offered by phone or chat. 1670-4532
