Chokwang Paint has launched the 'EverCool' series of heat-shielding paint, designed to prevent heatwave damage to facilities such as livestock barns and pig houses during the summer and to save on cooling costs.
To prevent heatwave damage in summer, it is important to lower the temperature of the roof, which takes the brunt of the heat. Chokwang Paint's 'EverCool' heat-shielding paint is a heat-shielding cool-roof paint that uses special infrared-reflective pigments; simply applying it to the roof reflects solar radiant heat, preventing the scorching sun's heat from entering the interior of the barn and raising the indoor temperature.
When the indoor temperature rises due to the hot summer sun, livestock suffer heat stress, reducing their feed intake and lowering productivity, which can ultimately lead to a decline in farm income. In a 2020 experiment by the Rural Development Administration on how controlling pig-house temperature affects productivity, maintaining a temperature of 20–25 degrees increased sows' feed intake by 21% compared with room temperature (25–35 degrees). The litter weight gain of weaned piglets (piglets that have just been weaned from their mothers and grouped with other pigs) was also confirmed to be 9% higher. For this reason, managing the temperature of livestock facilities such as pig houses in summer is a very important task. According to the experiment results, the roof surface temperature differed by about 21.5 degrees between areas coated with 'EverCool' and those that were not, and the indoor temperature differed by about 4 degrees. This means that indoor temperature can be maintained by running the air conditioner on low instead of high. As a result, Chokwang Paint's 'Energy Saving' system, which utilizes EverCool, can dramatically reduce even the cooling costs previously incurred to maintain barn temperatures. According to data released by the Korea Meteorological Administration, this summer's average temperature is expected to be higher than last year's. Although a heatwave forecast is announced every year, without thorough preparation to prevent the heat, heatwave damage will likewise recur.
