Delicate Colors Expressed through Collaboration with the Natural Dyeing Cultural Foundation

Shinhan Wallpaper has launched 'The Goun,' a premium duplex wallpaper. As people are increasingly exposed to various germs and fine dust in daily life, fine dust—which contains heavy metals and harmful substances—can also cause various illnesses. While outdoor activities have declined recently due to COVID-19, indoor spaces can also expose people to various harmful substances, so great care is needed now. Isn't there a way to make our home, the space where our family stays, even a little safer and more comfortable to rest in? It was out of this concern that Shinhan Wallpaper introduced the duplex wallpaper 'The Goun.'

The new duplex wallpaper 'The Goun' expresses delicate colors through a collaboration with the Natural Dyeing Cultural Foundation of Naju, renowned for natural dyeing. The wallpaper incorporates eight natural dyes: 'Indigo (Jjok),' with its deep blue resembling the sky; 'Green Tea,' with strong dyeing power and vivid color; the mysterious purple of 'Gromwell (Jichi)'; the bright 'Marigold (Geumjanhwa),' whose name means it resembles a golden wine cup; and 'White Clay (Baekto),' long used as a precious material. It is also characterized by the use of 'water-based ink' instead of oil-based ink containing volatile organic solvents such as benzene and toluene, adding eco-friendliness. In addition, the duplex wallpaper 'The Goun' features a specially treated antibacterial coating that helps block external germs. Tests conducted by the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) confirmed that it is superior to ordinary wallpaper in blocking germs. Furthermore, it has been selected for the 'Eco-Label, Eco-Friendly Building Material Certification, and Korea Atopy Association Recommended Product,' making it safe to use even in homes with children.

Heavy metals are present throughout our daily lives, including in fine dust and yellow dust. Once they enter the body, they are not easily discharged and accumulate inside, which can damage the central nervous system or cause heart disease. Since heavy metals can also be encountered indoors, wallpaper—which occupies the largest area within the home—must also be carefully examined. Testing confirmed that 'The Goun' showed no detection of the 14 major heavy metals, including mercury, lead, and cadmium.

A Shinhan Wallpaper representative explained, "Duplex wallpaper is eco-friendly because it is made of paper, but it has the drawback that its embossing can lose definition after installation. The Goun, our newly launched product, overcomes this drawback of duplex wallpaper, offering the advantage of a thick, three-dimensional emboss that can be felt even after installation."
