KD Woodtech has developed a new timber noise barrier with dramatically improved durability and acoustic performance, drawing attention in the market.

Until now, the timber noise barriers used in Korea were made with H3-grade preservative-treated wood, which posed durability problems. In addition, it is true that conventional preservative-treated woods were environmentally unsuitable, as hazardous substances such as heavy metals contained in the preservatives contaminated the surrounding soil. In response, KD Woodtech has newly unveiled the 'KD Acoustic Channel Rib (Noise Barrier)' system, developed to address the shortcomings of existing timber noise barriers. The new timber noise barrier adopts silicified wood, making it completely harmless to the human body and the environment, and it offers strength equivalent to H5-grade preservative-treated wood for durability, guaranteeing a service life of more than 40 years. In particular, the 'KD Acoustic Channel Rib' system is designed not only to provide sound insulation as a baseline but also to incorporate sound absorption performance and a howling-prevention function, offering a pleasant driving environment for drivers who drive with their windows down.

Moreover, wood treated with the silicification agent is highly resistant to moisture, making it well suited to environments such as the fog and mist that arise under Korea's road conditions, where coastal and mountainous regions are common. In fact, the noise barriers along the E18 highway, which runs east–west through six Northern European countries (Northern Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia; total length 1,890 km), are being replaced with silicified timber noise barriers.

KD Woodtech stated, "In this era where the use of timber is being actively encouraged due to the climate crisis, we hope that the timber noise barriers we have developed will be widely installed along roadsides and contribute to the Green New Deal."

The 'KD Acoustic Channel Rib' system fixes the timber louvers to the wall without using screws or nails; installation is a simple process of inserting aluminum brackets into the grooves on the sides of the timber louvers, enabling easy and safe construction. As a result, there is no risk whatsoever of damaging the wood through screw work. In addition, the polyester felt sound-absorbing material inserted inside the aluminum brackets does not come into direct contact with the wood, so it has no effect on the wood during rain—another advantage. The timber louvers can be arranged at various heights to suit one's taste, and they are highly effective in preventing acoustic howling in a space.

In addition, KD Woodtech has introduced the 'OrganoWood Silicification Agent,' an eco-friendly preservation solution for maintaining wood. The 'OrganoWood Silicification Agent' is an eco-friendly building material and a groundbreaking specialized care product for exterior wood. KD Woodtech has already been supplying silicified OrganoWood siding and decking, and the developer and supplier, Sweden's OrganoWood, has introduced three Organo liquid systems for the perfect preservation of wood. When additionally applied to conventional preservative-treated wood or other types of wood such as cedar and larch, the products deliver outstanding wood-preservation performance. The 'OrganoWood Silicification Agent' consists of an impregnation agent, a water repellent, and a cleaner. △The impregnation agent is used as an undercoat for wood that requires improved rot resistance and flame retardancy; it provides a bleaching effect and creates a harder surface. △The water repellent is used for wood maintenance and, in addition to its outstanding water-repellent function, inhibits surface mold and fungi. △The cleaner is used to clean the wood surface before silicification treatment or to clean silicified wood.

Furthermore, when the 'OrganoWood Silicification Agent' is used outdoors, the wood becomes even harder and takes on a bright surface along with a beautiful silver-gray color. Already widely used in Europe, the product has completed verification in Korea as well and is being applied to a variety of wood species and architectural space designs. 02-3401-5525
