Garden Project Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Kyung-bok) announced that it delivered a special lecture at the ‘2019 Landscape Architecture Town Hall Meeting’ held in Namgang Hall on the first floor of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) headquarters in Jinju.
The Urban Landscape Division of the Korea Land Corporation (Director Kim Sun-kyung) held the ‘2019 Landscape Architecture Town Hall Meeting’ on April 25. The event was planned as a related lecture aimed at shifting LH’s landscape architecture projects toward a direction that can expand social value and green welfare, and it was attended by about 110 landscape architecture staff members from the headquarters as well as regional headquarters, including field project units.
Recalling his ties with the Korea Land Corporation from his days as a new employee at an engineering company, CEO Park Kyung-bok delivered a special lecture on the theme of ‘Public Landscape Architecture Project Measures for the Spread of Social Value and Green Welfare,’ drawing on his 30 years of experience and knowledge as a landscape architect and 10 years as a social entrepreneur.
He defined Social Value (SV) — a concept that may be somewhat unfamiliar in the landscape architecture field — as ‘value that contributes to public benefits and community development that cannot be measured by economic accounting.’ Among the 13 categories of social value, he identified those related to LH as △revitalization of local communities and restoration of community △contribution to the local economy in which profits generated through economic activity circulate back into the region △preservation of environmental sustainability, and summarized them collectively as ‘realizing community benefits and strengthening public value.’
He introduced the social enterprise as an organization that is already managed according to the Social Value Index (SVI), and explained a case in which social enterprises are quantitatively evaluated using 14 indicators for a total of 100 points, weighting social value at 60%, economic value at 30%, and innovation performance at 10%.
He explained green welfare by dividing it into two concepts: △green welfare as environmental value and △green welfare that creates green jobs. First, regarding green welfare as environmental value, he emphasized the need to strengthen environmental performance in order to improve air quality that has recently made breathing difficult due to fine dust, and argued that quality jobs should be created in green spaces such as parks, green areas, forests, and botanical gardens, asserting that green jobs are the greatest form of green welfare.
As a direction for the future landscape architecture industry, CEO Park Kyung-bok stressed the need to pursue a sixth-industry strategy that combines the primary industry (tree production) + secondary industry (facility processing and assembly) + tertiary industry (design and consulting), and to lead Smart City projects based on 5G mobile communication technology in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution driven by artificial intelligence.
