Spatial Big Data Analysis Platform

Easy and Convenient to Use

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Noh Hyeong-ouk) has developed spatial big data standard analysis models that make spatial big data easy and convenient to use, and has released them through the ‘Spatial Big Data Analysis Platform (www.geobigdata.go.kr).’

A spatial big data standard analysis model is a model that standardizes data formats and analysis procedures so that spatial information can be used for various policy decisions and the like. When the standardized model is applied to similar tasks, the desired analysis results can be easily obtained, offering the advantages of not only cost savings but also data-driven, scientific decision-making.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has developed standard analysis models every year to support scientific administration and policy based on spatial information and data.

This year, the Ministry developed five models with high utility for public administration and policy tasks closely tied to citizens’ lives—such as transportation, daily life, and safety—including an analysis of bus stop blind spots and an analysis of fire-vulnerable areas. Based on data actually being used in practice by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and others, the Ministry actively incorporated the opinions of demanding agencies and implemented the models to provide practical assistance in resolving local issues and establishing policies.

Representative examples of the standard analysis models developed this year are as follows.

△(Seoul Metropolitan Government) Analysis of bus stop blind spots and bus routes — This model combines data such as bus stop locations and total regional population to analyze areas where bus stops or bus routes are insufficient relative to passenger demand, and can be used for establishing and adjusting public transportation policies.

△(Dongjak-gu, Seoul) Analysis of fire-vulnerable areas — This model uses data such as fire occurrences, fire station locations, and road information to analyze areas where responding to fires within the golden time is difficult, and can be used for adding firefighting and safety facilities and installing fire prevention centers.

The standard analysis models were developed using the ‘Spatial Big Data Analysis Platform,’ which features advanced analysis speed and functions, and anyone can easily view and use them online. In addition, users can analyze and develop spatial information as they wish using the platform, and services such as requesting analyses and applying for training on its use are also available.
