Noroo Paint received the Prime Minister's government commendation at the Gwacheon Government Complex on June 24, in recognition of its contributions to crime prevention—including more than a decade of continuous support for a nationwide mural project aimed at preventing crime in high-risk areas, carried out as a CPTED crime-prevention program in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice.
CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) refers to activities that prevent crime and protect residents' safety by changing the environment. Since 2016, Noroo Paint has signed MOUs for CPTED projects with the Ministry of Justice's law-abidance support centers, providing eco-friendly paint to more than 30 regions across the country. Through paint donations that contribute not only to the aesthetics of neighborhoods and streets but also to safety, the company received commendations from the Ministry of Justice in both 2016 and 2020.
In addition, to reduce child pedestrian traffic accidents—which occur more than 10,000 times each year—Noroo Paint has improved the walking environment with paint by creating traffic-safety awareness murals in areas with heavy foot traffic, as well as "Yellow Footprints" at crosswalks in child protection zones and the eye-catching "School Zone Guardian Yellow Carpet" for drivers. Through public-private-academic collaboration with organizations such as the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and Ewha Womans University, it has carried out a "Traffic-Safety Mural Painting" project, supplying all of the paint needed for murals to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's 14 regional headquarters nationwide. By contributing to the creation of a safe environment for the development of local communities, the company has helped prevent crime.
Noroo Paint has been putting into practice a philosophy of social contribution described as "the beautiful equation in which sharing doubles rather than halves." Using the paint it produces, the company is actively carrying out a variety of donation efforts for underserved communities and places in need of improvement support, such as schools for children with disabilities, orphanages, welfare centers, and schools. Leveraging paint, its core business, it has steadily continued programs including the nationwide mural project as well as a cool-roof project and paint support for underprivileged groups.
As a result of leading local-community environmental improvement consistently for more than a decade, Noroo Paint was recognized for its contributions to creating safer neighborhoods and received the Prime Minister's commendation at the 3rd Crime Prevention Awards ceremony. Going forward, the company plans to continue leading efforts in local-community crime prevention and living-environment improvement through paint and technical support.
