Anyang City Green New Deal Pilot Project

Cutting Energy Use and Reducing Greenhouse Gases

Noroo Paint has completed a Cool Roof pilot project at four public senior citizen centers in Anyang City. The climate crisis and global warming are no longer a threat but a reality. Having developed Korea's first heat-shielding paint in 2015, Noroo Paint continued its social contribution efforts this season as well, helping socially vulnerable groups by sponsoring rooftop Cool Roof paint.

This summer, Noroo Paint carried out the Cool Roof pilot project at four city-owned senior centers: Jungang Senior Center (Jangnae-ro, Manan-gu), Naebisan Senior Center (Pyeongchon-daero, Dongan-gu), Anyang 7-dong Senior Center (Deokcheon-ro, Manan-gu), and Neulpureun Senior Center (Surisan-ro, Manan-gu).

In this Cool Roof pilot project, Noroo Paint joined forces with Hyundai Engineering & Construction, the construction company for the Yungchang district, as a social contribution effort, providing heat-shielding paint and technical personnel. For general consumers interested in eco-friendly products that reduce power consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, Noroo Paint also directly carried out the work at some sites together with the 'Paint It Suda' team. Videos of the construction process, filmed as the YouTuber personally did the DIY application, can be viewed on the Paint It Suda YouTube channel.

Cool Roof, meaning a cool rooftop, is a method in which light-colored paint with sunlight- and solar-heat-reflecting effects is applied to a roof, reflecting solar radiant heat to lower indoor temperatures. This also brings energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction effects. After the project was completed, Anyang City measured the Neulpureun Senior Center with a thermal imaging camera, and the results showed that the Cool Roof-applied section was 27.9℃, while the untreated section was 37.8℃. The temperature difference between the treated and untreated sections was as much as 10℃.

Noroo Paint is leading the way in developing eco-friendly paints from a variety of materials and raw ingredients, accelerating the path to carbon neutrality. Through partnerships with local governments, the company plans to continue its social contribution activities for vulnerable groups, striving not only to bring pleasant changes to residential and public facilities but also to protect the global environment.
