LG Hausys: “We will continue to carry out patriotic social contribution activities”

‘Saesamseuri’ team wins Grand Prize for producing educational animation content

LG Hausys is joining with university students to run its ‘Dokdo Youth Guardians’ activities, promoting the value of Dokdo, part of Korea’s territory, to the world.

In connection with this, LG Hausys held the ‘2020 Dokdo Youth Guardians Idea Awards Ceremony’ on February 25 at the National Palace Museum of Korea, attended by representatives of the winning university student teams and officials from LG Hausys and the Cultural Heritage Administration.

‘Dokdo Youth Guardians’ is an incubating program that provides the education and budget university students need to produce a variety of cultural content that promotes the value of Dokdo’s nature and culture to the world.

Launched last October on Dokdo Day (October 25), the ‘2020 Dokdo Youth Guardians’ — 21 university students in seven teams — carried out a range of activities, including producing educational animation content, creating Dokdo promotional souvenirs, and producing promotional music.

In addition to supporting each team’s activity expenses, LG Hausys, together with the Cultural Heritage Administration, provided a variety of educational programs to enhance the students’ ability to produce related cultural content, covering topics such as introductions to Dokdo’s history and cultural heritage, project planning, and video production and editing.

Among them, the Grand Prize went to the ‘Saesamseuri’ team (Ahn Seul-gi, a second-year student at Hongik University, and two others), which produced an educational animation video and music aimed at children and adolescents who are encountering Dokdo for the first time, featuring the black-tailed gull and the white wagtail that inhabit Dokdo as its main characters.

In addition, the ‘Myeongdeokdaege’ team (Shin Min-seung, a first-year student at Hanyang University, and two others), which produced a video introducing Dokdo in six languages and sign language, won the Excellence Award, while the ‘Odok’ team (Lee Seong-jun, a third-year student at Chungbuk National University, and two others), which used Lego blocks to create a video depicting a fictional Dokdo defense squad protecting Dokdo’s underground resources, won the Merit Award.

Ahn Seul-gi, the representative of the ‘Saesamseuri’ team that won the Grand Prize at the ceremony, said, “To create Dokdo content that is easy for many people to understand while also being engaging, we decided to produce an animation featuring birds that inhabit Dokdo as the main characters.”

Lee Dong-ju, executive vice president in charge of public relations and external cooperation at LG Hausys, said, “We hope that the various cultural content produced by the Dokdo Youth Guardians this time will help, even in a small way, to promote Dokdo, part of our territory, more widely,” adding, “As a company that represents Korea’s building materials industry, we will continue to carry out a variety of patriotic social contribution activities that leverage our business capabilities in the future.”
