LG Hausys has carried out renovation work on the homes of six descendants of independence patriots.
In connection with this, on November 12 of last year, LG Hausys held a “Ceremony Marking the Completion of Residential Environment Improvements for Descendants of Independence Patriots” at the home of Ahn Chang-ho, a descendant of an independence patriot, located in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, with Heo Hyun, Vice Chairman of the Korea Liberation Association, and Lee Dong-ju, Executive Vice President of Public Relations/External Cooperation at LG Hausys, in attendance.
The descendants of independence patriots selected this time number six in total: Ahn Chang-ho, son of the late Ahn Do-yong, who was imprisoned for leading the March 1st Independence Movement in the Yeongil region of Gyeongbuk; Yoon Yong-muk, child of the late Yoon Hak-su; Pyo Jong-hyeok, grandchild (through the maternal line) of the late Jeong Man-san; Won Yu-seon, grandchild (through the maternal line) of the late Lee Bal-yeong; Jang Won-sun, grandchild of the late Jang Gi-yeong; and Kim Mun-deok, grandchild of the late Kim Seong-geun.
The late Ahn Do-yong gathered a crowd at the marketplace in Deokseong-ri, Cheongha-myeon, Yeongil-gun, Gyeongbuk, on March 22, 1919, waving the Taegeukgi (Korean national flag) and shouting for independence, for which he was arrested and imprisoned. In 1992, the government posthumously awarded him a Presidential Citation in recognition of his meritorious service.
Together with the Korea Liberation Association, LG Hausys selected the beneficiaries by comprehensively considering factors such as the age of the houses and the urgency of improvements among the descendants of independence patriots. The company provided interior materials such as windows and doors, flooring, and wallpaper, and carried out the renovation work over a two-week period beginning at the end of October last year, recently completing all of it.
At the ceremony that day, Ahn Chang-ho said, “I am grateful that a company has taken the lead in remembering independence activists and even their descendants, and in helping us live in a good environment.”
Lee Dong-ju, Executive Vice President of Public Relations/External Cooperation at LG Hausys, said, “In this meaningful year marking the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, we consider it an honor to be able to support residential environment improvements for the descendants of families of independence activists who devoted themselves to the nation.” He added, “We will continue our patriotic social contribution activities that leverage our business capabilities so that the spirit of love for the country is passed down to future generations.”
Meanwhile, since 2015, LG Hausys has carried out ‘renovation of memorial facilities’ and ‘residential environment improvements for persons of national merit’ as part of its patriotic social contribution activities. To date, it has renovated a total of nine facilities related to the independence movement and has supported residential environment improvements for 26 independence patriots (and their descendants) as well as domestic and overseas war veterans.
In addition, in March and October of last year, LG Hausys provided materials such as windows and doors and flooring to improve the facilities of the An Yong-bok Memorial Hall and the Dokdo Volunteer Guards Memorial Hall located on Ulleungdo, completing the renovation work. Since 2009, the company has been carrying out various activities to care for and preserve Dokdo, our national territory.
