Luxteel and Coated Steel Sheets
Providing Accurate Environmental Information
Dongkuk Steel announced that it has obtained the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification, an international-standard environmental labeling certification, for its Luxteel and coated steel sheet (GI, GL) product lines.
The Environmental Product Declaration certification is granted to products that quantify and disclose the environmental impact across the entire process—from raw material extraction to production, distribution, and disposal—in order to enhance eco-friendliness, with the aim of providing accurate environmental information.
To meet global demand for its eco-friendly color-coated steel and coated steel sheet products, Dongkuk Steel obtained certification from International EPD, a European international certification body.
Dongkuk Steel's Environmental Product Declaration certification is a Certification Body-level certification, obtained after an assessor from the certifying organization conducted an on-site inspection in person and the results underwent evaluation by a review committee, giving it greater credibility than document-based certifications.
Dongkuk Steel's Luxteel and coated steel sheets (GI, GL), which obtained the Environmental Product Declaration certification, account for more than half of the annual export sales of Dongkuk Steel's cold-rolled division.
With this certification, Dongkuk Steel expects the competitiveness of its products to improve amid export regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
In November 2021, Dongkuk Steel obtained GR certification (certification for the use of domestically produced recycled raw materials) for the rebar and section steel products at its Incheon and Pohang plants from the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and it has now obtained the Environmental Product Declaration certification for the coated steel sheets and Luxteel at its Busan plant.
Going forward, Dongkuk Steel plans to pursue Environmental Product Declaration certification for all products at all of its plants.
