KD Woodtech Reaches Commercialization Stage for Eco-Friendly Road Environment Technology

586㎡ Section of Jecheon's Jungang-ro Refurbished — Permeability, Durability, Carbon Reduction, and Installation Convenience

'Woodlock,' a wooden sidewalk paver developed by KD Woodtech for the first time in Korea, has begun full-scale installation on the shopping street of Jungang-ro in Jecheon, marking the advance of Korean-style eco-friendly road technology beyond the demonstration stage into commercialization. This installation is the first case in which Woodlock — successfully piloted at Ilsan Lake Park — has been applied to the national road system, and it is a meaningful achievement that signals a shift in the landscape of Korea's urban paving materials market.

In November 2025, Jecheon confirmed a section measuring 200m in length (both directions) by 2m in width — a total of 586㎡ — as the first phase for Woodlock installation. The project was commissioned by the city of Jecheon and carried out by local construction firm Sungwon Construction. The city is already reviewing second and third phase expansions in 2026, with the improvement of the pedestrian environment and enhanced flood response capacity in the Doksun-ro area as its main objectives.

Woodlock is made from petrified-treated leftover larch wood developed by KD Woodtech, and incorporates End-Grain Cutting technology, which maximizes the strength of the wood's cross-section. This technology preserves the natural structure of the wood while significantly increasing its strength, rot resistance, and durability compared to conventional products, enabling a service life of 25 to 50 years. It is also designed to withstand the weight of a 3.5-ton vehicle, giving it a structure optimized for urban pedestrian walkways. It has earned the Korea Forest Service's carbon storage mark.

Magic Easy Mortar, KD Woodtech's proprietary technology applied between the Woodlock pavers, stably secures the joints between each block while completing a natural permeability system designed to allow rainwater to infiltrate the ground immediately. As a result, it offers excellent drainage capacity during heavy rainfall, which can be expected to preemptively prevent flood damage.

Meanwhile, Jecheon completed a paulownia tree planting test in 2025 under the names of city council members, and has decided to fully pursue forest afforestation starting in 2026. The city's strategy of building a system to circularly utilize city-grown timber within urban spaces is deeply aligned with KD Woodtech's philosophy of timber circulation and eco-friendly ecological cities.

Regarding the Jecheon adoption, KD Woodtech emphasized, "Woodlock is Korea's first technology-based wooden sidewalk paver, a product that can be broadly applied to local governments, parks, resorts, and private spaces," adding, "We hope it becomes established as a safe walking environment for future generations and as an eco-friendly solution that stores carbon." Using this adoption as a springboard, KD Woodtech plans to expand cooperation with local governments and public institutions nationwide, broadening the scope of Woodlock's adoption as a source technology for eco-friendly urban regeneration.
