Ulsan polymer plant has maintained an accident-free record since June 2000
Achieved through a robust safety policy and the collaborative practice of honest safety leadership
The Ulsan polymer plant of global chemical company Wacker (Wacker Chemie AG) has achieved 20 consecutive years without an accident. This record has been sustained since June 2000, when the accident-free count began. Over the past 20 years, Wacker's Ulsan polymer plant has inspected and managed its facilities for producing and supplying VAE dispersions and polymer powders for construction without a single industrial accident, achieving the remarkable milestone of 20 years accident-free.
Cho Ki-hong, plant manager of WACKER Chemicals Korea's Ulsan plant, emphasized, "The 20-year accident-free achievement at Wacker's Ulsan plant was made possible through the collaborative practice of a robust safety policy and honest safety leadership by both management and on-site staff, safety and health practices centered on the production lines and the field, systematized safety and health activities, active two-way communication and the enthusiastic participation of all employees, and continuous improvement through periodic evaluation and monitoring." He added, "Going forward, all executives and employees will continue to do their utmost together to establish and enhance a voluntary safety culture."
Cho Dal-ho, president and CEO of WACKER Chemicals Korea, said, "This renewal of our accident-free record was accomplished while adhering to infection-prevention protocols to prevent COVID-19 and its spread, and while simultaneously carrying out the challenging tasks of expanding the third VAE dispersion reactor and the first dryer for construction polymer powder. It is a more valuable accomplishment than in any other year." He continued, "This achievement is the fruit of the Ulsan plant's systematic safety management system and its steady accident-prevention activities over the years, and I express my deep gratitude for the hard work of all the employees in Ulsan," commending them and adding, "I ask that you continue to do your best to sustain this accident-free achievement in the future."
Wacker is a leading specialist manufacturer of VAE dispersions and construction polymer powders, boasting the number one position in the industry. Both products are key raw materials that contribute to improving the performance and enhancing the quality of construction materials. In line with growing construction demand in the Asian region and the rising demand for high-quality, high-efficiency, and eco-friendly solutions, Wacker last year expanded its existing Ulsan polymer plant with new production facilities for VAE dispersions and construction polymers. The Ulsan polymer plant currently serves as a key production base for VAE dispersion and construction polymer powder products in the Asia-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, Wacker entered the Korean market in the mid-1980s and supplies a variety of chemical products. After establishing its Korean local subsidiary, Wacker Chemicals Korea, in 1996, it has been producing VAE dispersions at its Ulsan plant since early 2008, and it also operates a silicone plant in Jincheon separate from the Ulsan plant.
