‘EX-Unit’ floor plans that can be selected by 59·84·114㎡ unit size
Minimizing structural demolition and securing engineering capabilities for structural safety

Samsung C&T's Engineering & Construction Group (hereinafter Samsung C&T) has unveiled 18 types of remodeling-specialized floor plans that reflect customers' lifestyles.
To overcome the monotonous limitations of remodeling floor plans and to diversify the range of layouts customers can choose from, Samsung C&T plans to introduce these newly specialized floor-plan types—such as implementing free layouts by applying a column structure to expansion areas—and to move forward with applying them at project sites.
Remodeling is a business that improves aging residential environments by leaving the existing structural frame intact while expanding the floor area of each household. However, because construction must proceed while maintaining the existing building's frame, there have been certain limitations in achieving floor-plan configurations comparable to those of newly built apartments.
The specialized floor plans Samsung C&T has unveiled this time are characterized by significantly expanding the range of customer choices, presenting as many as 18 floor plans based on the three representative unit sizes of 59·84·114㎡ and on the direction of expansion—front, rear, or side. First, the 59·84㎡ types, which are generally composed of two bays, increase the number of bays—meaning the number of spaces adjoining a balcony—through side expansion, enhancing natural lighting and the utilization of space. The 114㎡ type, for which demand for increased area is not high, was diversified by improving its spatial composition. In addition, Samsung C&T also presented the household-separation (rental-income) floor plan of Raemian Daechi Highstern, which drew attention as the first such plan applied to a remodeling complex. Even within limited space, various spatial options were presented—including a specialized master zone, a front dining space, and a wide living room—so that customers can choose as they wish. Furthermore, circulation was planned by separating the family living area from private areas, and bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and the like were placed in the existing structural sections where spatial transformation is difficult, allowing for a freer configuration in the expansion spaces.
Samsung C&T has branded these remodeling-specialized floor plans as ‘EX-Unit,’ conveying the meaning of maximally maintaining the existing (Existing) frame while diversely extending (Extending) the space. In addition, having completed its design-rights application, the company plans to apply the plans sequentially to future new remodeling orders, such as Gwangnaru Hyundai, for which it was recently selected as the preferred bidder.
Along with developing floor plans to innovate remodeling spaces, Samsung C&T is also focusing on developing technologies to dramatically strengthen construction safety. Jointly with Ajou University, it developed the ‘Remodeling Structural Safety Evaluation Program,’ which can automatically calculate the sections requiring demolition by analyzing factors such as the load-burden ratio of the structure before and after remodeling, and it applies a design method that minimizes structural demolition. The company also plans to expand on-site application by developing a range of technologies, including the ‘Smart Pre-loading Pile Reinforcement Method,’ which uses an automatic control device to manage reinforcement piles that distribute load in remodeling foundation-reinforcement work, and the ‘Automatic Downward System Soundproof Wall,’ which operates automatically via a hydraulic device during frame demolition.
