Samsung C&T is establishing an 'Inter-Floor Noise Research Institute' to address inter-floor noise in apartment complexes, an issue that is spreading into a serious social problem.
Samsung C&T's Engineering & Construction Group announced that it has carried out an organizational restructuring to respond proactively to the rapidly changing business environment, and that it has decided to newly establish the Inter-Floor Noise Research Institute in particular to fulfill the company's role as an agent for solving social problems.
Samsung C&T, which has led innovation in residential culture through the application of smart technology and improvements in housing performance, is setting up a dedicated inter-floor noise research organization because the inter-floor noise issue is spreading beyond a mere housing-performance concern into a social problem. In fact, inter-floor noise has been cited as the number one grievance in apartment complexes, and related disputes continue to increase across society.
The Inter-Floor Noise Research Institute being created within Samsung C&T will be placed under the ENG Center and staffed with around 10 personnel holding master's and doctoral degrees, with the head of the ENG Center, at the executive vice president level, serving as its director. This signifies that the company is stepping up responsibly to solve a social problem, going beyond simply supplying quality housing.
The Inter-Floor Noise Research Institute plans to conduct comprehensive research—from analyzing the causes and current status of inter-floor noise to materials, structures, and new construction methods—covering technology development and the securing of solutions to reduce inter-floor noise. In particular, the company plans to apply the technologies it secures to apartment construction sites in stages through continuous experimentation and verification.
Kim Jae-ho, executive vice president of Samsung C&T's ENG Center, who will lead the Inter-Floor Noise Research Institute, said, "We have consistently pursued the development and application of technologies to improve housing performance, including inter-floor noise, and going forward, as an entity that builds apartment complexes, we plan to take more responsible action on inter-floor noise, which has become a social problem."
Meanwhile, in its regular organizational restructuring that day, Samsung C&T decided to maintain its existing three-division structure comprising the Building & Civil Engineering Division, the Plant Division, and the High-Tech Division. This is a move to respond stably to the rapidly changing business environment. However, it newly established a New Business Development Office to secure new growth engines and quickly establish them as a competitive strength for the company.
